In the winter biathlon, the dynamic and static transitions are decided

Originating in scandinavia, Northern Europe, biathlon is a combination of cross-country skiing and shooting that tests the ability of competitors to switch between movement and static. During the competition, athletes step on skis, hold ski poles, carry special guns, and glide along marked pistes, using free techniques. A shot is fired over a distance, which is divided into horizontal and vertical shots, and if the shot is off target, it will be fined time or number of laps. After reaching the finish line, the shorter one wins.

Athlete equipment includes ski suits, ski caps, ski gloves, ski goggles, ski boots and shooting guns.

Biathlon is divided into men's and women's sprints, individual races, chases, group starts, relays and mixed relays.

In short distance competitions, athletes start at intervals of 30 seconds or 1 minute and shoot 2 rounds (5 bullets each time), in the order of lying down and shooting vertically. Each time they missed target, the athlete had to slip a lap in the 150-meter-long penalty track.

In the individual race, the athlete starts at 30 seconds or 1 minute interval, shoots 4 rounds in the taxi, and each time he loses the target, the athlete's final taxi time is added to the penalty of 1 minute.

In the chase, the order of departure of the athletes is determined according to the results of the sprint race. Four rounds of shooting are played in the game, and one lap of penalty is added to the off-target.

There are 30 places for the group, and athletes who have won medals in sprint, individual and chase competitions can participate, and the other places are from the top athletes in short distance competitions. The athletes set off at the same time, shooting off target and giving one penalty at a time.

In the relay race, the men's and women's competitions are all 4 participants, and the first baton of each group starts at the same time. After the athletes have completed their own task, they will contact the next team member in the relay area to complete the relay, and the next athlete will set off.

Mixed relay race, 2 men and 2 women teamed up. Two female runners each skated 6 km and two male runners each skated 7.5 km. The order of departure is: women, women, men, men. The format is the same as the relay race.

There are 11 sub-events in the biathlon competition of the Beijing Winter Olympics, namely: men's 10 km short distance, 20 km individual, 12.5 km chase, 15 km collective departure, 4×7.5 km relay; women's 7.5 km short distance, 15 km individual, 10 km chase, 12.5 km collective departure, 4×.5 km relay; mixed event 4×6 km mixed relay.
