Reply from the State Forestry and Grassland Administration "Molly the Asian Elephant" Incident: Third Party Opinions Need to be Sought| The Political Research Office of the Green Society

author:China Green Development Association

Recently, the Political Research Office of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation has continued to receive feedback from volunteers about the suspected abuse of the Asian elephant "Molly" in recent years. According to the information provided by the volunteers, the 2-year-old baby elephant "Molly" bred by the Henan Jiaozuo Qinyang and Shengsheng Forest Zoo was exchanged for racial breeding at the Yuantongshan Zoo in Kunming, and after the baby elephant was sent to Henan, it was not pampered as in Kunming, but became a performing elephant and was suspected of being abused.

In order to truthfully grasp the situation of "Molly" and other Asian elephants, and to stop and prevent wild animals from being abused in a timely manner, the Political Research Office of the Commission has issued an application for information disclosure to the relevant units involved in the case, such as the Qinyang and Sheng Forest Zoo in Jiaozuo, Henan, the Swan Lake Ecological Park in Qinyang City, and the Yuantongshan Zoo in Kunming. At the same time, in order to urge relevant departments to carry out wildlife protection actions in accordance with the law, the Political Research Office of the Commission issued an application for the disclosure of relevant information to the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the State Forestry and Grassland Administration.
