Kunming, February 10 (Xinhua) -- According to the Management and Conservation Bureau of Wumeng Mountain National Nature Reserve in Yunnan, researchers recently found that from March to November 2021, the reserve monitored 20 species of wild animals under national key protection, including 3 kinds of wild animals under national key protection such as the big spirit cat.
Li Pengying, assistant engineer of the Scientific Research Institute of the Management and Conservation Bureau of Wumeng Mountain National Nature Reserve in Yunnan, introduced that the national first-level key protected wild animals monitored this time are the big spirit cat, the Sichuan mountain partridge, the gray-breasted plover, and the national second-level key protected wild animals include 17 species of yellow-throated marten, pine sparrowhawk, white-bellied golden pheasant and so on.
"This monitoring shows that the ecological and environmental protection of Wumeng Mountain Nature Reserve is effective." Li Pengying said that after a large amount of data collation and analysis, we have further clarified the distribution and population size of wild animals under key protection in these countries, which is of great significance for the next scientific monitoring, protection and research.
Located in Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province, Wumeng Mountain National Nature Reserve is composed of three areas: Haiziping, Chaotianma and Sanjiangkou, with a total area of more than 26,000 hectares, and its main protection objects are subtropical wet evergreen broad-leaved forest ecosystems, rare and endangered endemic species and their habitats.
