"Troubled Road" became "Happiness Road"

"The road has finally been repaired, and we are more convenient to travel and more comfortable." Recently, Chen Guidi, a resident of Gexiang New Village in Zhongnan Community, Lihu Street, Binhu District, talked about the changes in Gexiang Road at the entrance of the community. Originally, in order to make this "troublesome road" that has plagued residents' lives for many years better, the community listed it in the "micro-happiness" project at the beginning of last year, and after the transformation, the original pothole pavement not only became smooth and clean, but also widened and added dozens of parking spaces, giving everyone a safe and convenient travel environment at the same time, but also enhancing the "sense of happiness".

Gexiang Road, which is 500 meters long and 7 meters wide, is an unknown small road near Hubin Commercial Street, but it is the only way for 136 residents of Gexiang New Village 201-208 to travel daily. The surrounding area is close to Zhongnan Homestead and Jiangsu Electronic Quality Inspection Institute, with a large flow of people and many vehicles. However, the road has fallen into disrepair, the road surface is cracked and potholed, and the roads are lined with vehicles, garbage piles, and overgrown weeds, which seriously affects the travel and life of residents.

"In the morning and evening rush hours, the road often takes ten minutes to 'get out'." Chen Guidi recalled, especially on rainy days, not only is it blocked, but half of the entire road is full of water, directly flooding to the calf belly, making it difficult for both vehicles and pedestrians to pass.

In order to completely solve the residents' "heart disease", after the Zhongnan community received the appeal, it coordinated the restoration of Gexiang Road for the first time. In order not to affect the normal traffic, the whole process adopted the "half-width construction, half-width traffic" mode, which shortened the construction period as much as possible and was completed in February last year in advance.

The road was repaired, and other "sticking points" about the road were put on the agenda. In March last year, the community will also involve several "pain points" in the road water, parking difficulties, and chaotic environment, formulate a list, list solutions one by one, and step up the promotion. In response to the problem of water accumulation on the road, the community reopened and laid the underground pipe network and added manhole covers to facilitate the discharge of rainwater from the road. At the end of the road, what was originally a sanitary dead end for stacking construction waste has now been transformed into a small parking lot that can accommodate 50 cars to meet the daily parking needs of residents.

The reporter saw at the scene that the original damaged dirt road was paved with asphalt after widening and repairing, the surrounding vehicles were parked neatly, and the walls were repainted and beautified. "It's really changed a lot compared to before!" Looking at the new Gexiang Road in front of him, Wang Yaqin, a resident of Gexiang New Village for more than 20 years, gave a thumbs up.

The relevant person in charge of the Zhongnan community said that road renovation is the first step in the transformation of the new village, and this year will also combine the social conditions and public opinion and the actual situation of the community to renovate the old new village, separate the rain and sewage pipes and other aspects of transformation, so as to achieve a new look in the old community and improve the happiness index of residents.
