"Please pay special attention to this porpoise suffering from 'skin disease' in the near future, and hope that the 'Smile Angel' will recover as soon as possible and add more vitality to the beautiful Yangtze River." According to the relevant person in charge of the Nantong Environmental Monitoring Center, on February 3, 2022, a number of photographers of the Nantong Love Bird Photography Association photographed a finless porpoise suspected of being infected with "skin disease" on the river near Fanyin Square in Wolf Mountain. The suspected fungal infection is judged by relevant experts, but the diagnosis still needs to be judged together with the blood test results. A stranded finless porpoise in the Anqing River section around 2005 also had this plaque, which was diagnosed as lobar pneumonia at the time. On August 30, 2020, Nanjing also photographed a porpoise suffering from this "skin disease". Although the activity of this porpoise suffering from "skin disease" has not been significantly abnormal, it is not excluded that the condition will further worsen, such as poor immunity, which may be life-threatening. At present, other finless porpoise skin has not seen the "skin disease" status, in January 2022, the water quality of the river section also reached the national surface water class II standard, there is no abnormality, Nantong Environmental Monitoring Center will continue to monitor the water quality and ecological environment of the Nantong section of the Yangtze River.

Finless porpoises are mammals, breathing with their lungs, every few minutes (uncertain), will come out of the water for ventilation, such as after finding, they can continue to observe nearby for a period of time to determine the number, size (2 large and 1 small are the most common), swimming direction, etc. After you find the finless porpoise, timely feedback the observation information (time, place, number of finless porpoises, photos and videos, swimming direction, observers, etc.) to the finless porpoise ranger (finless porpoise ranger contact number: Axin 19952565667, 0513-85158670; contact email: [email protected]), such as finding abnormal (sick, injured, stranded, dead) finless porpoise, timely call the finless porpoise ranger phone or police. The Nantong Environmental Monitoring Center of Jiangsu Province calls on everyone to jointly patrol the porpoise in the region, grasp the law of porpoise activities, rescue injured and sick porpoises, provide protection suggestions for relevant functional departments, and jointly protect the smiling angel - yangtze river finless porpoise. The Porpoise Patrol Alliance (Nantong Suzhou Section of the Yangtze River) will aggregate all valid observation information and regularly release patrol reports and finless porpoise status to the public.

Yangtze River finless porpoise (commonly known as "River Pig") is the only freshwater subspecies of the finless porpoise genus, the national level of key protected wild animals, the number is only about 60% of the giant panda, the population status of the Yangtze River finless porpoise is an important indication of the health of the Yangtze River water ecosystem, and has an irreplaceable role in the stability of the Yangtze River water ecosystem. On February 5, 2021, the Yangtze River finless porpoise was officially upgraded from a national second-level key protected wild animal to a first-class, which further highlighted the rarity, preciousness and endangerment of the Yangtze River finless porpoise. Since December 2019, the Nantong section of the Yangtze River has repeatedly recorded the appearance of the Yangtze River porpoise.
