In the men's individual sprint (free technical) race, the runners have to glide 1.5 kilometers, and the route includes uphill, downhill and flat land, which accounts for about 1/3 of each. The format of the competition is a knockout system, starting from the qualifiers, the lottery determines the order of the matches, and one athlete starts every 15 seconds.

A total of 22 athletes participated in the competition, including China's Cai Xuetong, Liu Jiayu, Wu Shaotong and Qiu Leng! At the beginning of the first round of competition, Cai Xuetong, the "elder of the four dynasties" of the Winter Olympics, selected the skill movement as a forefoot to enter the outside turn 900, the front foot inward turn 540, and the reverse foot 720, the quality of completion was very high, and he scored 83.25 points, ranking second. In the second round, Cai Xuetong tried a difficult action error in the last jump, only scored 55.50 points, and finally won the third place with 83.25 points scored in the first round of skating, and successfully advanced to the final.

Topping the qualifying round was defending champion Chloe King from the United States, who scored 87.75 points in the first round and just 8.75 points on a second-round error. Japan's Mitsuki Ono scored 79.50 points in the first round and 83.75 in the second round, ranking second.
