Heilongjiang Channel, February 7 (Xinhua) -- With the Beijing Winter Olympics approaching, paper-cut artists in Hailun City, Heilongjiang Province, used scissors and red paper in their hands to create exquisite works to celebrate the Spring Festival and welcome the Winter Olympics.

Zhao Hongyu is working on paper-cutting.
Since the beginning of December last year, Zhao Hongyu, a paper-cutting creator in Hailun City, has begun to create paper-cut works on the theme of the Spring Festival of the Year of the Tiger and the Winter Olympics. She has created a number of creative paper cuts on the theme of the Winter Olympics, vividly showing the competitive moments of the Winter Olympics such as figure skating, short track speed skating and skiing. The images of athletes such as Zhang Hui, Sun Linlin, and Zhao Hongbo are also included in these works. The pieces of paper cuts are cleverly conceived, in different shapes, and come alive. Zhao Hongyu integrated the elements of the Year of the Tiger and the Elements of the Winter Olympics into paper-cutting, expressing his good wishes for the Spring Festival and the Winter Olympics in the Year of the Tiger.
The art of paper-cutting is one of the Chinese folk arts, and Helen's paper-cut paintings are large and rugged in style. In December 2020, Helen paper-cutting was successfully selected into the fifth batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative projects. Zhao Hongyu said that as the inheritor of Helen's paper-cutting, he specially designed and created a number of paper-cut works containing elements of the Winter Olympics, using the intangible cultural heritage on his fingertips to present the Winter Olympics and cheer for the Athletes of the Winter Olympics.
