The 22/23 English Open and the 2022 US Nine-Goal Doubles World Cup settled in Essex

Essex's Brentwood Centre will host two major billiards tournaments in 2022: Matchroom's 9-goal doubles World Cup and Snooker's England Open.

From 13 to 18 June 2022, the 9-goal World Cup will bring together 64 masters from 32 countries and regions at Brentwood Centre to compete fiercely for team honors, championship titles and a total prize fund of $250,000. The tournament is played on a single-elimination format. Germany is the defending champions, and Joshua Feller, as the top nine-goal player today, will represent the German team to successfully defend the title. Austria's Albin Oschun, the American "old cannon" Shaun Van Bournin and the two-time MVP of the British Moscony Cup, Jason Shaw, will lead their respective national teams to fight for the championship in the six-day competition.

Barry Hearn, President of Matchroom, said: "The 9-ball World Cup is one of the unique events in the 9-goal competition, and in such an international atmosphere, Brentwood is bound to successfully host a wonderful event. The sport of 9-ball is constantly evolving, and the Doubles World Cup will be an important event not to be missed. We can't wait to see players like Oschun and Jason Shaw compete on our doorstep. We are delighted to be working with the Brentwood District Government in June to organise this world-class event, which will be streamed live simultaneously on Sky Sports in the UK and on global networking platforms." ”

The Snooker England Open will be held from 12 to 18 December 2022 and will feature more than 70 of the world's top 16 players, including O'Sullivan, Trump, Selby and defending champion Robertson. The British Open, one of the homegrown series, will be broadcast by Eurosport and other broadcasters around the world.

Steve Dawson, president of WST, said: "We are delighted to bring the World Snooker Tour to Brentwood Centre for the first time. It's a great venue, and as a treasure trove of people, top names like O'Sullivan, Carter and Bingham have come out of it. This is a great opportunity for local fans to get up close and personal with some of the best players in the world to compete for a title. We look forward to working with Brentwood Council to host a first-class event that will delight both players and fans." ”

Brentwood Council Leader Chris Hosack MP added: "Matchroom's commitment to bringing spectators and quality sporting events from around the world to Brentwood Centre is truly great news. We look forward to bringing more world-class events to Brentwood through the partnership between Matchroom, the local council and Everyone Active." Snooker fans haven't had the chance to see the game they love in Essex in years, and hosting the 9-ball World Cup in Brentwood is a fantastic idea. ”
