Haikou, February 5 (Xinhua) -- On February 5, Haikou ushered in the first sailing event of the Chinese New Year. On the same day, the "China Sports Lottery" Laser 4.7 Asian Games Training Team Selection Competition and the 2022 National Laser 4.7 Sailing Championship opened near Xixiu Beach in Haikou. The competition attracted nearly 200 outstanding sailing athletes, coaches and team leaders from Fujian, Guangdong, Jiangsu and other parts of the country.

The competition consists of men's laser 4.7 track race, long distance race, women's laser 4.7 track race and long distance race.

Wang Jiaxin, director of the Competition Department of the China Sailing and Windsurfing Association, introduced that the top 12 athletes in the male and female levels of this competition will be selected for the laser 4.7 national youth sailing Asian Games training team, and through the training, 2 outstanding athletes will be selected to represent the Chinese team to participate in the laser 4.7 class sailing project competition of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. This is the first time that the China Sailing and Windsurfing Association has conducted an open selection for the society, the main purpose is to explore and build a broad stage for the development of youth sailing in the future.

The fathers of Su Ruoyu and Su Ruoque, the representative team of Shenzhen Meisha Voyage Club, said that their family arrived in Haikou on the second day of the Chinese New Year to prepare in advance, and the two children were very competitive in the Topper boat competition before, and the current contact with laser 4.7 level is still relatively short. Papa Su believes that the water sports atmosphere in Haikou is very good, and the sea conditions and wind conditions are very suitable for water sports. The two children have the opportunity to experience the highest level of competition in the current single event in China, feel the highest level of professional status of their peers, and provide a long-term and clear goal for children's future training and learning.

The competition was hosted by the China Sailing and Windsurfing Association, the Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports, and the Haikou Municipal People's Government. The competition will close on the 8th. (End)
