Octogenarians relive their honeymoon with virtual reality

According to the British "Metropolis Daily" reported on October 14, affected by the epidemic, people have to stay at home and isolate, and various activities have been restricted. Recently, an octogenarian couple in the United Kingdom, with the help of virtual reality technology, stayed at home and relived the honeymoon trip of the two 48 years ago.

Doug, 80, and Jayne, 76, met in 1971 at a disco in Chelmsford, Essex, and married within 1 year. Both couples enjoyed their vacations, especially to Spain and Florida in the United States. After their marriage, they traveled to Benidorm, Spain, for their honeymoon. In January 2018, Doug was diagnosed with dementia, so the couple has been living in a nursing home in the UK since May 2019.

This year marks the 48th wedding anniversary of Doug and Jayne, who want to travel to Benidorm again but are unable to go abroad due to the pandemic. Luckily, Norwegian startup Motitech has provided virtual reality technology to the nursing home, whereby by using static bikers, the couple can experience what it's like to ride a bike through the sunny streets of a Spanish resort. In addition, the elderly couple received a congratulatory video from Benidorm Mayor Toni Perez.

Motitech's technology, called Motiview, is designed to help older adults and people with dementia participate in sports activities that allow them to virtually travel the world or revisit locations that are important to them. Doug said: "It's an impressive piece of technology and it's great to see how Benidorm is now different from what it was 48 years ago. It was a pleasure to meet the mayor, even though we couldn't understand the Spanish he spoke. (Compiled and reported by China Youth Network)
