Winter Olympic Alpine Ski Doctor: I am about to spend the Spring Festival on the ski track and am full of confidence in the Winter Olympics

People's Daily health client Sun Huan

"When I signed up to become a 'ski doctor', I was full of enthusiasm, and I didn't expect the training to be so hard, but fortunately I persevered." Now that the Winter Olympics are about to open, it is more of an anticipation and full of confidence. "January 30, one day before the Spring Festival and five days before the opening of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. There is such a group of people, in the days of family reunion, in the reverse, farewell to the family, in the days when the people of the whole country celebrate the Spring Festival, they will be on the Winter Olympic alpine ski track to remove the old and welcome the new, they are the Winter Olympics protection doctors, Peking University Cancer Hospital Anesthesiology Department Dr. Yang Jiaonan is one of them.

She told the People's Daily health client that it has entered the closed loop of the Winter Olympics and is looking forward to the opening of the Beijing Winter Olympics.

3 years to sharpen a sword, the snow field gliding "like walking on the ground"

On July 31, 2015, Beijing successfully bid to host the 24th Winter Olympics in 2022, and while celebrating this achievement, related preparations are also underway. In 2017, Yang Jiaonan saw a notice issued by Peking University Cancer Hospital that medical staff with skiing foundations were required to undertake the medical protection of the snow sports of the Beijing Winter Olympics.

"As an anesthesiologist, I was more familiar with the situation of emergency treatment, with professional medical skills and skiing skills, and I thought that I could do a small part for the Winter Olympics, so I signed up with Dr. Li Xiaoxi in the same department."

The hardships of the training that followed caught her off guard. Alpine skiing has always been known for its difficulty and strong ornamentation, and is a skiing sport that combines speed and skill, and is known as the "jewel in the crown of the Winter Olympics", but it is also one of the most injured and dangerous Winter Olympic events. The pistes of the National Alpine Ski Center are the highest grade alpine skiing tracks in the country, with high altitude and large drops, making it one of the most difficult alpine skiing tracks in the world.

There are more than 100 people in the medical security team of alpine skiing in the Winter Olympics, including 40 domestic ski doctors who are responsible for track rescue like Yang Jiaonan. On the competitive and racing tracks, every 300 to 400 meters there will be a track medical station (FOP), each track medical station equipped with two ski doctors and three rescue team members. During the rescue, two people were in a group, and one of the ski doctors had to carry a first-aid kit, including oxygen cylinders, splints, straps, medicines, respirators, etc., and carried more than ten kilograms.

On the other hand, the International Snow Federation stipulates that if an athlete falls during the race, medical workers must be on the scene within 4 minutes. "In fact, if there is an accident, we need to suspend the race first, empty the track, wait for the dispatch and a series of processes, leaving us with less time than 4 minutes." In order to complete this task, Yang Jiaonan conducted 3 years of training.

"Because of the climate, we only have a snow environment every winter to train, and the rest of the time we have to learn English and various first aid skills. The altitude is high, the climatic conditions are also relatively harsh, we carry more than ten kilograms, not only to practice stopping next to the wounded patient in time, but also in the case of minus twenty or thirty degrees, take off gloves and other warm facilities to treat the wounded. "For Yang Jiaonan and her teammates, frostbite is already commonplace." Our team members, frostbite on the hands and feet is a common thing, after all, the treatment of the wounded is the most important.

Escorting the Winter Olympics, the Spring Festival to be spent on the ski track

In order to prevent the spread of the new crown epidemic, the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics will adopt closed-loop management. Since January 4, Yang Jiaonan and her colleagues have begun to prepare for entering the closed loop. On January 23, after entering the closed loop, it was a daily two o'clock and one line to and from the station and the National Alpine Ski Center.

"Departing at about 6 o'clock every day, through a fixed closed-loop vehicle, entering the alpine ski center for more than an hour, and returning at about 6 pm in the evening." Yang Jiaonan told the People's Daily health client that the working hours are basically about 12 hours a day. In addition to their own work, epidemic prevention is also a top priority. After entering the closed loop, ski doctors have to do nucleic acid once a day, disinfect in and out, and wear masks at any time. "In the work, we still have to contact athletes and coaches from all over the world, and doing a good job in epidemic prevention is responsible for each other."

In the high-intensity work, in order to successfully complete the work, Yang Jiaonan and colleagues also brought their own fitness equipment. "I brought a yoga mat, dumbbells and stretch bands, and every day I went back to the hotel to try to exercise a little longer and increase my muscle strength so that I could better complete this medical protection work."

Approaching the Spring Festival, it is the day of family reunion, but for Yang Jiaonan, there is more important work than reuniting with her family. "In the case of this global epidemic, our country can still host the 2022 Winter Olympics as scheduled, which is both a challenge and a demonstration of our national strength, and I feel very honored and proud to be able to make a modest contribution to the Beijing Winter Olympics." In Yang Jiaonan's view, the Beijing Winter Olympics is bound to become an unparalleled sports event, and participating in it will be the most unforgettable memory of a lifetime.
