Tom Cruise starred in an untitled space live-action-adventure film that is expected to begin next year. Universal Pictures is currently awaiting the submission of scripts from director Doug Riemann and screenwriter and producer Christopher McQuarrie. In May 2020, media reported that Tom Cruise would work with NASA and Elon Musk's Space Exploration Technology company to complete the filming of the landing.
People familiar with the matter said that this is not a science fiction movie, but an action-adventure film, most of the content will be filmed on Earth, and one of the segments will be filmed on the International Space Station, and there may be scenes filmed in rockets.
Tom Cruise will play a hapless guy again in the film: finding himself the only one who can save the world. Universal believes the film will be launched after paramount's Mission Impossible 8 is completed (released on June 28, 2024).
