Amazon Go stores are no longer just focusing on downtown and are starting to expand more to suburban customers

On January 29, Amazon is bringing its Amazon Go store to more people, opening its first branches in the suburbs instead of the metropolitan downtown area that the company has so far favored. The first store will open in Mills Creek, Washington, in the coming months.

"We think local residents and commuters will love our Just Walk Out Shopping, where they can quickly and easily shop in their own neighborhoods from an expanded array of delicious, ready-to-eat foods and handy drinks and snacks," Amazon said.

Amazon's expansion was very slow until shoppers were hopeful about seeing the prospects of Amazon's Go store in local communities. Currently, only the Mills River store and the second store in Los Angeles have been confirmed. In fact, even in urban areas, Amazon Go Stores are only available in four states, mainly concentrated in major cities such as Chicago, New York, and San Francisco.

Unlike traditional stores with cash registers and checkout staff, Amazon Go stores are designed to offer Just Walk Out Shopping. In other words, the store automatically detects when items have been removed or put back on shelves. The system uses a virtual shopping cart to track customer purchases, and when they're done, simply walk out the door. Amazon deducts the customer's Amazon account and provides an electronic receipt.

These stores have always been a popular choice in urban areas, providing customers with a quick and easy way to stock up on the items they need without the hassle of traditional shops. In fact, because of their popularity, Amazon's rival Walmart has been looking to launch its own version of the cashier-less experience, starting with Sam's Club Now store.
