The Telegraph: AZP wants a new 3-year contract and Chelsea are currently reluctant to give such a long contract

The Daily Telegraph reported that Azpilicueta wanted a new three-year contract, but Chelsea did not want to give such a long contract.

Azpilicueta is understood to have more negotiations with Chelsea before he can truly decide on his personal future. His current contract expires at the end of the season and Barca have issued him an invitation with the intention of taking him back to La Liga.

Barca are willing to offer Azpilicueta a three-year or at least two-year contract, while Chelsea are reluctant to give the veteran such a long contract, and the Blues' previous policy was to renew the 30-year-old player every year. As it stands, the ideal scenario would be for Chelsea to renew Azpilicueta's contract for another year with the option to renew it for another year.

In addition, Barca are also focusing on another Chelsea defender, Christensen, whose Danish contract is also expiring. Chelsea have been working to renew their contract with Christensen, but have not yet succeeded.
