Michael Jackson and "Bubbles"

As early as a year ago, it was reported that the famous screenwriter Dan Harmon ("Rick and Morty", "Monster House") was preparing to bring Isaac Adamson's "script blacklist" work "Bubbles" to the big screen.

The work is an imaginative look at the life of pop superstar Michael Jackson from the perspective of Michael Jackson's chimpanzee pet "Bubbles". Originally from Austin, Texas, Bubble was adopted by Michael Jackson to his "Neverland Ranch" in 1983. It was a close companion of Michael Jackson until it later became aggressive that Bubble was sent to an ape shelter in Florida.

Such a work full of whimsy is bound to require an idea-oriented director to take charge. According to The Daily Screen, Starburns Industries has determined that Thor 3: Twilight of the Gods director Taka Waititi and Marvel Papa Fox animation director Mark Gustafson will direct the film.

And Waititi also talked about the reasons for taking over the film and its vision for the film:

"I'm fascinated by this work, and I want to be able to get deep into it," Waititi says.

In fact, Waititi has always been interested in Michael Jackson. Back in 2010, Waititi's award-winning film Maori Boy set the protagonist as a young boy who loves Michael Jackson.

"Everybody knows that I'm a brainwashed fan of Michael Jackson. The most important thing for me is to make sure that this work has enough respect for Michael and the spiritual legacy he left behind. I'm not interested in making a biopic, I want to tell a story that blends reality and fantasy about how an animal tries to make the world more meaningful.

This movie won't be a biopic about Michael, because it's not a story to be told by me, or a story that I can tell easily, but a wonderful journey of a chimpanzee through a complex human world.

I think going into the animated form is best for this story. I really liked 2015's Aberration, where reflections on loneliness are so beautiful and real. I'm also excited to be working with Dan Harmon and his Burning Star Company to tell a human story in such a unique, artistic way. ”

Telling a story from a chimpanzee perspective is challenging anyway, and it makes Waititi's approach particularly intriguing.

On the other hand, the film project is currently soft-launched at the Berlin Film Festival, and in the next Cannes Film Festival, the film will have even greater action. And Waititi is recently busy with "Thor 3: Twilight of the Gods", and when he is finished, it will take a long time to start this stop-motion animation project, according to foreign media speculation, the film will have to wait until 2019 at the earliest.
