I. Foreword: Generational Showdown Can the Ryzen 5 5600X maintain its advantage?
In recent years, the performance of AMD Ryzen™ processors in the market has always been stable on Intel Core, whether it is gaming or productivity, whether it is its own price or platform price. Even an 8-core processor like the i7-11700K was easily defeated by the 6-core Ryzen 5600X.
In response to this situation, Intel launched a 12th-generation Core device with obvious performance improvement, performance and energy efficiency have been greatly improved, among which in the mainstream field, i5-12400 has become a star before it was released, directly benchmarking the Ryzen 5 5600X.
So in the face of new opponents, can AMD Ryzen™ processors still maintain the lead in gaming?
Ryzen 5 5600X was released as early as the end of the previous year, i5-12400 was just born at the beginning of this year, strictly speaking, the two processors are not the same generation of products, but considering the Zen4 architecture of the Ryzen 7000 series will wait for about half a year, when it will meet the 13th generation of Core, Ryzen 5000 series still have to continue to face the 12th generation of Core.
On the other hand, the i5-12400 with the support of Intel 7 (10nm) process and new CPU architecture, when it was first released, it claimed that the performance exceeded that of the previous generation of i7-11700K, so can the Ryzen 5600X maintain the advantage of Intel processors?

In this review, we mainly compared the game performance of the two processors, focusing on the online games that are currently hot.
In terms of specifications, the Ryzen 5 5600X faces the i5-12400 on paper data is still not inferior, in terms of full core frequency, the Ryzen 5 5600X is 0.6GHz ahead, and in terms of tertiary cache, the Ryzen 5 5600X is almost twice that of the i5-12400, but because it is a new generation of processors, the i5-12400 supports DDR5 4800MHz memory and is compatible with DDR4 3200MHz, and the applicability will be wider.
Here we briefly talk about the role of the L3 cache.
Processor in the high load of computing data throughput is often in the hundreds ofGB / s or TB / s level, our common home computer memory capacity is generally in the range of 8GB ~ 32GB, these bandwidth can not meet the processor so large throughput, so there is a processor cache, the processor can read data directly from the cache, after the cache is used up, continue to use memory, the speed naturally goes up, which is also the reason why the cache capacity must be large.
Different from stand-alone games, online games require the processor to swallow data back and forth due to the real-time operation of other players, scene changes and other factors, so the dependence of online games on the three-level cache is much higher than that of single-player games.
Here's the testbed we're using this time.
In this test, we used the Sapphire RX 6600 XT graphics card, considering the positioning of the Ryzen 5600X and i5-12400, there may be more players with the RX 6600 XT level on a daily basis.
i5-12400 side, because it is a new generation of processors, and support DDR5 memory, so on the motherboard we used the Mingxuan MS-iCraft Z690 motherboard and Kingston 32GB DDR5 4800MHz memory, which is also the more mainstream motherboard and memory collocation.
On the one hand, DDR4, on the other side, DDR5, seems unfair, but on the one hand, Intel originally supports new technologies, which is beyond reproach, on the other hand, the performance of DDR5-4800 does not seem to be much different from that of DDR4-3200.
Without further ado, let's look directly at the results.
Second, "League of Legends": Ryzen 5 5600X is significantly ahead
In the game "League of Legends", we set the highest quality, 1080P resolution, i5-12400 in the line period of the frame rate to maintain at about 300 frames, there will be a certain degree of fluctuation when the skill is released, but the range is not large.
Also on the line, the frame rate of the Ryzen 5 5600X remains at about 390 frames, and the gap is still quite large.
The gap between the line period is more obvious, and the frame rate of the Ryzen 5 5600X is 100 frames more than that of the i5-12400, and the gap is about 34%.
During small group wars, the frame rate of the i5-12400 decreased significantly, but it remained around 200 frames.
The Ryzen 5 5600X has a frame rate of around 248 frames, and although there has been a certain degree of decline, it is still much higher than the i5-12400.
In the team battle stage, the gap between the two processors has decreased, the Ryzen 5 5600X is about 50 frames ahead of the i5-12400, a gap of 27%, and the Ryzen 5 5600X is still a significant lead.
STAR WARS: Ryzen 5 5600X leads 10%
"Star Wars Armor" is a real-time Digital Extremes developed a sci-fi theme of the third person shooter game, players can experience the fierce battles in different environments in the game, although the name of the shooter, but melee is the essence of the game, but the game's requirements for configuration are not high.
In the test, the frame rate of the i5-12400 was maintained at about 220 frames, and the general frame rate remained at about 400 frames due to no fluctuations in the picture when on the spaceship.
Similarly, the Ryzen 5 5600X's frame rate remains around 247 frames.
Judging from the results, the gap between the two processors has narrowed slightly, and the difference in frame rate performance is only about 22 frames, and the Ryzen 5 5600X is still leading.
CS:GO: The gap is narrowing
The daimyo of "CS:GO" believes that it does not need to be introduced too much, as the orthodox sequel to the CS series, it has caused a crazy chase by many CS fans since its official release in 2012, and after landing in the domestic market in 2017, a CS trend has been blown up in the domestic market.
In the actual test, the frame rate of the i5-12400 remained around 370 frames, and the first test was 374.48 frames and the second test was 373.18 frames.
The same two tests, the first test in the Ryzen 5600X frame rate of 383.22 frames, the second test of the frame rate of 392.46 frames.
In both tests, the i5-12400 trailed the Ryzen 5 5600X by 8 frames and 19 frames, respectively.
The 19-frame gap is converted into a total, which is that the Ryzen 5 5600X is about 5% ahead of the i5-12400.
V. "Against the Cold Water": Ryzen 5 5600X was caught up
"Against the Cold Water" is a large-scale multiplayer online game produced by NetEase, the game is based on Wen Ruian's novel "Four Famous Catches", "Say Who is the Hero", "Shenzhou Qixia" three series of novels as the background, showing Wen Ruian's Northern Song Dynasty during the jianghu feud, players can play a variety of roles in the game to participate in the process of major events, the sense of immersion is excellent.
In the actual test, we turned on the highest quality, limited frame rate 150, i5-12400 test result of 105.2 frames, in the beginning of the test the frame rate is higher, but in the face of complex tests, the minimum frame rate has dropped below 90 frames.
In the test of the Ryzen 5 5600X, the final result was 105.4 frames, which means that the Ryzen 5600X leading the i5-12400 has a frame rate of only 0.2 frames, which is basically negligible.
However, it is not difficult to find from the test curve that the frame rate curve of the Ryzen 5 5600X is smoother than that of the i5-12400, the lowest frame rate of the Ryzen 5600X test curve is 92 frames, and the minimum frame rate of the test curve of the i5-12400 is 88 frames, which means that the Ryzen 5 5600X is more stable than the i5-12400.
VI. "Forever Destroyed": The gap has been reopened
"Forever Doom" is a chicken-like online game produced by NetEase, in the game world, players need to control a hero to fight with other players, rich game content, invigorating operation experience, novel game mode, have made many players crazy, only 4 months after the public beta, it set a new record for domestic buyout game sales with 6 million sales.
In our tests, the game frame rate of the i5-12400 always fluctuated around 60 to 70, but the average frame rate remained around 65 frames.
When it was the turn of the Ryzen 5 5600X test, the frame rate remained at around 80 frames, and the gap was widened again.
Due to the larger number of players in the scene, this is just an advantage for the Ryzen 5 5600X, and the lead over the i5-12400 is back to more than 20%, reaching 22%.
World of Tanks: Ryzen 5 5600X leads 1%
"World of Tanks" is a war online game launched by Wargaming company, due to its hardcore game settings and high game requirements for the understanding of the game, it is affectionately known as "Yamaguchi Ding" by domestic players, in which players can play as 1930-1960s chariots for battle, and the degree of historical restoration is extremely high.
In the test, the i5-12400 scored 31954 points, which translates to a frame rate of 195.6 frames.
In the World of Tanks test, the Ryzen™ 5600X scored 32,144 points, which translates to a frame rate of 196.8 frames.
Judging from the results, the gap between the two processors was further narrowed, the gap of 1 frame was completely within the acceptable range of fluctuations, and the i5-12400 caught up with the Ryzen 5 5600X for the second time.
VIII. "Sword Spirit": Ryzen 5 5600X is leading again
"Sword Spirit" is a 3D large fantasy multiplayer online game developed by the Korean game open NCSoft, due to its exquisite modeling, detailed game content and other advantages, was introduced to China by Tencent, although today's popularity is not as good as it was then, but it is still a good game.
In the multiplayer scene test, we turned on the highest image quality, and the frame rate of the i5-12400 remained around 70 frames.
With enough characters in the scene, the Ryzen 5 5600X frame rate reached 74 frames, and the frame rate exceeded the i5-12400 again.
Although it seems that the frame rate is similar, if the conversion is also 7%, the gap is still quite large.
9. "Far Cry" 5: Performance is basically flat
After testing the online game, let's take a look at the performance of the two processors in the stand-alone game.
Far Cry 5 is a first-person shooter game produced by Ubisoft, where players play the role of the game against hostile forces, and can obtain new specialties by completing challenges and finding specialty magazines to increase the number of special points of the mission, which is extremely playable.
In actual tests, the i5-12400 has a minimum frame rate of 107 frames, a maximum frame rate of 168 frames, and an average frame rate of 133 frames.
The Ryzen 5 5600X has a minimum frame rate of 102 frames, a maximum frame rate of 171 frames, and an average frame rate of 136 frames, it seems that even if it is a stand-alone game, the Ryzen 5600X still maintains strong performance.
From the final result, the Ryzen 5 5600X's lead over the i5-12400 fell back to 2%, basically remaining within the normal range of volatility.
Assassin's Creed: Odyssey: i5-12400 takes a slight lead
The daimyo of Assassin's Creed believes that there is no need to introduce more, and the Odyssey, as the eleventh work in the series, tells the secret fictional history of the Peloponnesian War between ancient Greek city-states, and players can jump back and forth between different factions to experience the virtual deeds of real historical scenes.
In real tests, the i5-12400 had a minimum frame rate of 24 frames, a maximum frame rate of 127 frames, and an average frame rate of 67 frames.

Judging from the results, the i5-12400 is ahead of the Ryzen 5600X in frame rate for the first time, although it is only 4 frames ahead, but it is also a lead.
Final Fantasy 15: The Ryzen 5 5600X is back in the lead
Final Fantasy 15 is the 15th installment in the Final Fantasy series released by Japanese developer Square Enix, and is based on the new crystal myth while unfolding an independent worldview, using different visual designs and characters. This game is also a masterpiece of the series, and is sought after by many players.
In the game test, we set it to high quality, 1920*1080 resolution, and the final score of the i5-12400 was 5454 points.
The Ryzen 5 5600X has a total score of 5926 points, and the gap widens again.
From the final result, the Ryzen 5600X's lead over the i5-12400 was re-opened to 9%, and it seems that even the single-player Ryzen™ 5600X is a little stronger than the i5-12400.
12. Tomb Raider: Shadow: Performance is basically flat
"Tomb Raider: Shadow" is a special action adventure game developed by EIDOS, the protagonist of the game Laura can be said to be one of the most famous characters in the game circle, and Shadow is also the most fun generation of the current Tomb Raider series, friends who like this genre can not miss it.
In actual tests, the i5-12400 has an average frame rate of 129 frames, making the whole process very smooth.
The Ryzen 5 5600X has an average frame rate of 127 frames in the game, slightly behind 2 frames.
From the final result, the performance of the two processors is basically flat, and the gap of 2 frames is somewhat insufficient in the face of a base of 100+.
Thirteen, power consumption: the two processors are basically the same
To this day, some users' impression of AMD processors is still stuck in the deviation of more than a decade ago, thinking that AMD processors are power-consuming and power-intensive, but the advent of the Zen architecture has made the power consumption and energy efficiency performance of AMD processors have already caught up with or even exceeded Intel's same level of processors.
At the time of testing, the indoor temperature is about 23 °C, the baking machine is 1 hour, 32 minutes and 48 seconds, and it can be seen that the maximum power consumption of the i5-12400 is 79.99W, and the average is 71.7W.
The same roaster, with a duration of 1 hour, 31 minutes and 31 seconds, the maximum power consumption of the Ryzen 5 5600X is 76.21W, with an average of 75.95W.
The Ryzen 5 5600X consumes less than 5W on average at 0.6 GHz higher than the i5-12400 with full core power consumption.
14. Summary: The Ryzen 5 5600X is still the king of cost performance
In single-player games, although the advantages of the Ryzen 5 5600X are shrinking, this does not affect the overall excellent performance of the Ryzen 5600X.
Intel's approach is very clever, high-end products multi-core high frequency, mid-range product frequency reduction and reduction of core number. This practice has also been seen in previous Intel products, especially after the use of 10nm, even the mid-range processor can have excellent game performance, but the Ryzen series of processors have also been working for many years, Zen3 architecture especially in single-core performance, game performance by leaps and bounds, Intel wants to catch up with or even surpass in a time, it is not an easy task.
Take i5-12400 as an example, because it is a new generation of processors, the interface has become incompatible with the previous generation of LGA1700, so it is necessary to buy a new motherboard, the platform cost is much higher, and the most suitable for collocation of B660 motherboard has just come out, the price is generally still a little high, it still takes some time to fall to a more reasonable level.
At present, the price of i5-12400 plus B660 motherboard is generally around 2300 yuan, even if the i2-12400F without nuclear display is used, the price is only 100 yuan cheaper.
Back to the Ryzen 5 5600X side, the price of the Ryzen 5 5600X with B450 is about 2000 yuan, and because the Ryzen 5 5600X was released early enough, there are a large number of fragments on the market, and the price is lower.
Based on this situation, we recommend two configurations to you.
In the above two configurations, in addition to the processor, motherboard, memory, other collocations are all the same, but the Intel platform is 1280 yuan more expensive than the AMD platform.
The price of the i5-12400 with asus ROG B660M-K is 2269 yuan, and the price of the Ryzen 5 5600X with MSI B450M MORTAR MAX is 1999 yuan, which is a difference of 270 yuan.
Because the Intel platform uses DDR5 memory, and the price of DDR5 memory is too expensive, the price of Kingston FURY 16GB DDR5 4800MHz is 1499 yuan, while the price of Kingston FURY 16GB (8 *2) DDR4 3200MHz is only 489 yuan, which is another 1010 yuan.
The same configuration AMD platform is cheaper but more powerful, saving 1280 yuan is enough to buy a set of top-of-the-line peripheral equipment, and even enough to buy a 32-inch 4K monitor.
For friends who pursue cost performance, Ryzen 5 5600X is still the undoubted cost-effective king of 2000 yuan.
