According to the Greek "Sino-Greek Times" reported on October 14, local time, a new storm named "Baros" will succeed "Athena" to land in Greece, and the weather system is expected to bring bad weather such as heavy rainfall. Authorities said they would be ready to deal with bad weather at all times.
The "Barros" storm is coming
An emergency notice from Greece's National Weather Service showed that a weather system named "Baros" would make landfall in Greece from west to southwest on October 14.
During the landing of the Baros weather system in Greece, there will be thunderstorms in most parts of the country, and local areas will even be accompanied by strong winds and hail. Temperatures in northern Greece have dropped significantly by 6 to 7 degrees Celsius.
Thunderstorms first began to affect the western part of the Greek continent, Macedonia and the Ionian Sea region, and gradually affected the rest of the country from noon on the 14th. On the 15th, most of Greece will be affected, but from the afternoon of the 15th, the storm in the northwestern part of the Greek mainland will gradually weaken. On the 16th, the eastern part of Greece will be affected by thunderstorms.
Authorities said they would be ready to deal with bad weather at all times
Due to the arrival of new storms, the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Defence, Cristos Styrianidis, returned to Greece from Brussels. Immediately after talks with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, he held a teleconference with the governors of 13 regions to discuss the response of state agencies in bad weather.
Firefighters across Greece are always ready for extreme weather. After the "Athena" attacks on the northern island of Euboia and Thessaloniki, the firefighters were in a state of "readiness". At the same time, the Ministry of Civil Defence is also preparing for the arrival of bad weather.
In accordance with the instructions of the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Defence, the local government informed residents living in flood-affected areas not to stay in basements and ground floors at night during periods of bad weather. (Tan Shu Yin)
