On the evening of January 22, the French Castle New Year Concert was held in Kunming Park 1903. The event, hosted by the Kunming Harp Center, aims to jointly spread the culture of the harp and welcome the New Year in a musical way.
According to reports, harp (harp), as one of the oldest large plucked stringed instruments, its appearance is exquisite, beautiful, very artistic temperament, its tone is elegant, pure, like pearl jade crystal, as clear as the dew. It mainly serves as a harmony accompaniment and a sliding ornament in symphony orchestras and song and dance dramas, which is the finishing touch and unforgettable to the audience; in the solo, it can play soft and beautiful lyrical or colorful sections, which is very infectious. The harp is an unpopular instrument, giving the impression of mysterious and dreamy, touching people's hearts through beautiful music.
In 2015, the first harp center in Yunnan, the Barlow Art Institute, was opened in Dianchi Road, Kunming, and offered art courses such as harp and cello. In the past 7 years since its establishment, the center has held many concerts and participated in domestic and foreign competitions, and established a sound harp teaching and emperor examination system, and achieved a 100% pass rate in the harp emperor examination. In 2021, yunnan's first harp orchestra and cello orchestra were established, and the harp orchestra is divided into three orchestras, Xiaonuonuo Preparatory Group, Barlow Harp Orchestra and Barlow Adult Harp Orchestra, which are committed to popularizing music knowledge and harp culture to Music lovers in Yunnan.
Barlow Academy of Arts actively participates in major music festivals in Kunming, and actively promotes Kunming harp culture to go global. In 2017, the students of the college participated in melbourne competitions and performances, the Hong Kong Harp Conference, etc., at the same time, introduced the harp culture into YunDa Affiliated High School and opened the Harp Orchestra; in 2018, they built a new campus in the north city to participate in the Italian Harp Summer Camp and Harp Competition; in 2020, they participated in the China-Japan International Music Festival Competition and achieved good results, and in 2021, they participated in a number of competitions and held theme concerts.
