The movie "Wrangler" is based on Zhang Xianliang's novel "Spirit and Flesh", which is a film intertwined with tragic historical fate and the joy of simple life, and has become the spiritual banner of a generation.

"Wrangler" tells that in 1980, Xu Jingshan, an old overseas Chinese entrepreneur, returned from the United States, found his son Xu Lingjun, who worked at the Northwest Shulechuan Ranch, and decided to take him to the United States to inherit the inheritance. In the past thirty years, Xu Lingjun has experienced the pain of orphans to rightists, living under the care of herders, getting married and having children, and stepping onto the podium of teachers. This unforgettable past made Xu Lingjun decide to stay in the grassland of the motherland, and Xu Jingshan finally understood his son and found a common language to relive the love of father and son.

What touches people the most is the essence of the characters in this film - kindness, simplicity and inner love.

The protagonist of this movie, Xu Lingjun, is a rich man who has to endure some things unique to the times because of his father. Twenty years later, it's hard for me to imagine how deeply the pain he's experienced has gone deep into the marrow. We don't know the change of identity, the change of mood, but when he wants to die, we can guess what this pain is like - people are afraid of death, and when a person is no longer afraid of death, it proves that the pain of his life is really unbearable. Fortunately, there was a group of people so simple around him, they may not be literate, they may not have seen the sky outside, but they have saved such a soul with their enthusiasm. His wife Li Xiuzhi's words "You are not a bad person" are enough to give him the courage to continue his life.

The environment affects people, and people affect the environment. The purest prairie and the simplest people were so harmonious that the alien soul who suddenly broke in seemed out of place with them: everyone was illiterate, but he loved to read so much; everyone was so cheerful, but he was very shy. But he did not disrupt everyone's rhythm, but brought a different soul to everyone. Everyone touched him with their kindness, slowly melting his already cold heart, and later even to the point of enthusiasm. With enthusiasm and passion, he threw himself into the teaching profession and contributed his knowledge to this prairie and to the motherland.

At the beginning of the film, the protagonist Xu Lingjun said this to his father: "If it were not for this group of kind people, I might not have seen you." "No matter whether the road ahead is smooth or bumpy, as long as you move forward hopefully, you will definitely see the light." The difference between people and people is that some people walk during the day, some people have to walk at night, although the environment is different, but it is still necessary to go.

Maybe this is The Divine Arrangement, who can't bear to let such a pure soul slowly wear away. Although the situation later turned around, he saw the long-awaited hope in his heart, so he gave up a rich life within reach, just to join the big family of building a new China.

This firm belief is exactly what we lack at present, in the past, people's material life was not rich, but their spiritual life was very rich. But now it's all the other way around, and people are confused about their spiritual lives, including me.

The protagonist of the film, Xu Lingjun, shuttles through the two very different worlds of urban and rural areas, reminiscing, struggling and choosing between the two. Through Xu Lingjun's memories and narrations, the camera is constantly changing, making the material life of the metropolis and the simple life of the grassland, and the urban people and the villagers form a very strong and sharp contrast.

Among these simple images, the most prominent representative is Xu Lingjun's wife Li Xiuzhi. She is simple and generous, industrious and capable. On the first day of arriving at Xu Lingjun's house, she took the initiative to wash the dishes and mend Xu Lingjun's clothes; before marriage, she could arrange the original messy and dilapidated house into a clean and bright new house; She not only raises many livestock at home, but also makes her own adobe house, which is the image of a typical rural girl. But she was so beautiful, so gentle. The smile is cute and charming, and the husband Xu Lingjun is a bird and a person. Such an image is so perfect! But what was even more surprising was her outlook on life, her enlightenment. Xu Jingshan also asked Xu Lingjun: Will you and her have a common language? Indeed, one of them is an intellectual, and the other is a rural girl. But in my opinion, Li Xiuzhi has more wisdom in life than Xu Lingjun. She is smart and studious, learns to read, and insists on writing a diary; Watching Soviet movies, she also has a deep understanding - "there will be bread, milk will be available, everything will be fine", with an optimistic attitude; She never cared whether her husband was a rightist or not, whether he had become a state teacher, in her eyes people had made mistakes and corrected them, Xu Lingjun was still Xu Lingjun in her eyes!

She was sensible and ambitious, and when her youngest son clamored for Grandpa's car, she taught him that we couldn't ask for the money we earned. She was a peasant girl, but she did not have the slightest limitation of peasant class ideology. She is extremely spiritual, has a taste for life, and is a very perfect image. In stark contrast to her is Xu Lingjun's father, Xu Jingshan. He was an American overseas Chinese, and his long life in the United States tainted him with the habits of Western capitalists. He was rich and hedonistic. He admits to being a billionaire on property but emotionally destitute. He went so far as to think that marriage was only a treaty and an obligation, and that such a treaty should be kept to the end, regardless of whether he had feelings with his wife or not.

At the beginning, Xu Jingshan's image was "fierce and vicious", as if he had no emotions, only valued money, he disdained the life and love of his son Xu Lingjun, and only wanted him to follow him to the United States to inherit the family property. But in the end, he understood his son, felt his emotions, and respected him. He also begged his son to help him buy a cemetery on the mainland, which he wanted to bury in his homeland. It can be seen from this that he, an old overseas Chinese, actually still has a sense of attachment to the motherland in his heart, and he is not completely immersed in Western culture. This image is flesh and blood, because he is very real, and in general, he can still feel the beauty of human nature.

The protagonist, Xu Lingjun, is the connector of these two images, the connector of the two worlds. He and his father Xu Jingshan's way of life seemed incompatible, eating and dancing were not his way of life, and it was impossible to talk about politics. There was a fierce clash of ideas between them, because they were people of different classes and had completely different value orientations. On the one hand was his father and great material temptation that he had not seen for many years, and on the other was his dear wife and children and the villagers and students of the steppe that he could not live without. But in fact, it was not difficult for him to choose, and material money was not a temptation for him, because his heart was already deeply rooted in that simple grassland and rooted in the land of the motherland. When he was homeless, it was the blind dates on Qilian Mountain who helped him get through; When he wanted to commit suicide in the class struggle, he immediately thought of the motherland that nurtured him. He loves the motherland too much!

The reason why Xu Lingjun was embarrassed to let Li Xiuzhi live with himself was that he thought that the villager Guo Yuzi did not tell Li Xiuzhi that he was a rightist! And when Li Xiuzhi finished saying, "Uncle Guo told me that you are not a bad person", in an instant, Xu Lingjun raised his head, his eyes were shining, and tears rolled down. It was the trust and simplicity of his blind dates that gave him hope, which was the most beautiful thing and why he was so attached to this land. Life is beautiful, and this simplicity gives him a beautiful emotion. This is also the most attractive thing shown in the movie. Therefore, even though Xu Lingjun was persecuted because of his birth class, he firmly believed that history was created by the people, and this ancient nation had the vitality to turn things around!

In the face of all kinds of class conflicts and value conflicts, there is still good. No matter what, abandoning those differences and conflicts, what moves people's hearts the most in the movie is the simple beauty - the beautiful person, the beautiful heart, the beautiful nature, and more importantly, he has a beautiful faith and love in his heart - faith and love for the motherland, the most simple love for his relatives, which is also the most primitive human nature - kindness and simplicity - the spirit and flesh cast!
