90min: Liverpool are far from Zakaria unlikely to sign him this month

According to 90min Network, Liverpool are "unlikely" to sign Swiss midfielder Zakaria from Borussia Mönchengladbach in January.

Last month, 90min reported that Zakaria would be the target of this month's multiple Premier League teams, including big clubs such as Manchester United and Arsenal. Subsequently, Liverpool were also seen as interested in the dynamic midfielder. Zakaria's contract with Borussia Möncheng will expire at the end of the season, with little indication that he will stay in the Bundesliga next season. This makes him an attractive target in the market, and many teams are looking to reinforce the position of the rear midfield through this winter window.

However, the Liverpool Echo confirmed through its multiple "club sources" that Liverpool and Zakaria's transfer is still far away. Due to the covid-19 pandemic and injuries, several of Klopp's midfielders have been bedridden this season, but recently Fabinho, Henderson, Curtis Jones and Milner have all returned, leaving only Thiago still recovering from injuries. This made it much less urgent for the Reds to bring in reinforcements in midfield.

It won't be a busy transfer window for the Reds. Their most pressing issue is the completion of a contract extension with Salah. Salah is currently competing in the Africa Cup of Nations, and his contract expires in 2023, but the Reds are desperate to extend his contract as the Egyptian is at the best of his career.
