The Israeli Antiquities Administration said on the 5th that Israel found a private toilet more than 2700 years ago under Jerusalem, which was a rare luxury facility in ancient times.
According to the Associated Press, archaeologists excavated a large mansion overlooking Jerusalem's Old City, which housed a toilet made of smooth limestone in a square hut.
The chiseled opening in the middle of the toilet leads to a septic tank. Archaeologists have found objects such as animal bones and pottery in the septic tank site.
The head of the excavation mission, Yakov Bilig, said that private toilets were "extremely rare in that era", only available to wealthy families, and the number found so far is very small.
He said septic tanks at the time were also used as garbage ponds. Archaeologists hope to learn about the eating habits of people at that time by studying animal bones and pottery found in septic tanks.
