A disabled couple in Hubei became "inspirational beekeepers" to increase villagers' income

Yichang, China, September 23 (Wang Yuexian, Dong Xiaobin) "Well-wishers have helped us, so we also hope to do our best to help others live a good life." Yang Jie, a villager in Tucheng Township, Yichang City, Hubei Province, said on the 22nd. Nine years ago, Yang Jie and his wife Wang Zhaoyu were disabled by a car accident, but they were disabled, breeding bees to get rid of poverty and drive villagers to increase their income.

In 2012, an accidental car accident seriously injured Yang Jie and his wife. After recovering from their injuries, the couple could only barely walk on crutches. Daughters who have just entered high school have to drop out of school and go home to take care of their parents and young brother.

Despite the misfortune, Yang Jie and his wife still face life positively and optimistically. In order not to drag their daughter down, the couple actively did rehabilitation training, and finally recovered to be able to live on their own. Unable to go out to earn money, the couple helped each other to the tea garden to take care of the tea and citrus trees. In 2016, Yang Jie was included in the establishment of a file for poor households.

In 2017, with the help of Peng Gang, deputy director of the Poverty Alleviation Office of the Origin Military Region, he and his wife began to develop bee farming. At first, some of the farmed bees did not return to the nest, and the couple was helpless. To this end, the studious couple flipped through the bee breeding books and consulted the technical personnel to master the breeding technology.

The next year, through breeding and harvesting wild bees, Yang Jie and his wife doubled the number of bees they bred, and the honey produced increased the income of Yang Jie's family, and they successfully escaped poverty. By the end of 2020, the number of beekeeping by Yang Jie and his wife has reached more than 60 boxes, and the annual income has exceeded 10,000 yuan.

Nearby villagers watched Yang Jie's family get rid of poverty and began to imitate the breeding of bees, but how to raise bees, how to harvest honey and other technologies, everyone knows nothing, only to ask Yang Jie for advice. "Whenever a villager asks him for advice, he always answers carefully, and sometimes he comes to the door to explain." Wang Zhaoyu said.

Villager Liao Honghua farmed bees in 2018, from the initial 1 box to more than 30 boxes now. "Yang Jie patiently taught me when and how to reproduce and how to cut honey from bees." Liao Honghua said that sometimes there are unexpected situations at night, as long as a phone call, Yang Jie immediately rushed to help.

Today, Yang Jie is seeking a better breeding base, plans to expand the scale of breeding, and lead more villagers to develop bee farming. "Our life is getting better day by day, and I hope that the villagers will work together to make their lives better and better." Yang Jie said. (End)
