Hefei, 21 Jan (CnBC) -- On 21 January, the book "The Light of Dongcheng Industry -- The Old Industrial Base of Hefei in Memory" (Hefei University of Technology Press), planned by the Propaganda Department of the Yaohai District CPC Committee and the Yaohai District Culture and Tourism Bureau, and edited by Cheng Tangyi, was published. For the first time, the book reproduces the glorious course of industrial development in Yaohai District (formerly Dongcheng District) for more than 50 years from the founding of New China to the end of the last century.

"Huangshan", "Fangcao", "Jianghuai"... When it comes to Yaohai, many people in Hefei will think of factories, roaring machines, and busy workers. Since Hefei built the earliest industrial enterprise Anhui North Machinery General Factory here in 1951, especially after 1954, a number of textile, electrical appliances, food and forging enterprises moved from Shanghai have settled in succession, and Yaohai District has become the most complete area of Hefei and even Anhui industrial system at that time, covering more than ten fields such as machinery, textile, steel, chemical industry, and electrical appliances. As the birthplace of Hefei's industry, Yaohai has created a number of Anhui firsts, China's first, and even the world's first, and has created a brilliant achievement of nearly 70% of the city's total industrial output value.
Although with the development of the times and the construction of the city, most of these industrial enterprises have withdrawn from the historical stage, the times should not forget the fiery and brilliant history, let alone those who created history. In order to retain these memories, but also in order to do a good job in cultural inheritance and better use "urban memory" to create a "city business card", the Propaganda Department of the Yaohai District Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Yaohai District Culture and Tourism Bureau organized and compiled this book.
This book is written by Cheng Tangyi, a veteran journalist who has been working in the media for a long time and has been engaged in the research and writing of literature and history and archives for more than ten years. The book lasted for several years, mainly in the form of oral history of witnesses, telling the establishment, development and glorious process of the old industrial enterprises in Yaohai District. In terms of form, the book is roughly divided into many chapters such as steel enterprises, textile enterprises, chemical enterprises, food enterprises, machinery enterprises and gorgeous transformation according to the categories of enterprises at that time, involving nearly 200 enterprises of various types, both in detail and linked to historical materials, a total of about 150,000 words, and with more than 100 precious historical photos, it is the first panoramic reproduction of the glorious history of the old industrial development of Yaohai District. Through this text and the slow way of photos, readers can truly feel that the development process of one enterprise after another reflects not only the thick historical background of Yaohai and the history of the development of industrial civilization in a city that is constantly striving, but also the posture of a country's self-reliance and angry efforts in the great era.
