Amazon officially announced the upcoming version of "The Lord of the Rings" as: "The Lord of the Rings: The Lord of the Rings" (provisional translation). The series will premiere on Prime Video on September 2, 2022.
Set in the Second Age of Middle-earth history, this epic fantasy drama is a relatively sparsely excavated part of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel, primarily recorded in the appendix to his novel. The show takes place thousands of years before the events depicted in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogy.
Executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay said in a statement that "the title of the series carries the weight of Tolkien's other classics." The Lord of the Rings: The Lord of the Rings will fuse all the major stories of the Second Age of Middle-earth: the forging of the ring, the rise of the Demon King Sauron, the epic of the Numanore Empire, and the last alliance between the elves and humans. He added: "So far, viewers have only seen part of the Lord of the Rings story on screen – but there are many epics before the ring is forged..... We are excited to share epic stories from all of them. ”
The first season of The Lord of the Rings: Lord of the Rings was filmed in New Zealand in August 2021. The second season will continue filming in the UK. Amazon Studios previously announced that pre-production of the second season will begin early in 2022.
