As the core of the competition in the second half of the automotive market, intelligent and connected vehicles have become the focus of attention in the industry in recent years. In 2021, the mainland's intelligent and connected vehicles showed a strong momentum of development, and in 2022, the relevant departments once again expressed their strong support for this industry at the macro level. In the eyes of industry insiders, intelligent networked vehicles have become increasingly mature in the field of new energy, but the future development trend involves automatic driving, and it is necessary to truly reach the L5 level and require a high degree of coordination between people and vehicles, which is not something that can be done in a short period of time.

Increase support
On January 20, Luo Junjie, spokesman for the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that it is necessary to deeply implement the "three products" strategy, promote the upgrading of information consumption, and increase the cultivation of intelligent networked vehicles, smart health pensions, ice and snow equipment and other industries.
On January 13, the First Department of Equipment Industry of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology organized a working meeting of the Intelligent Connected Vehicle Promotion Group (ICV-2035), saying that the Intelligent Connected Vehicle Promotion Group (ICV-2035) in 2022 will grasp the new situation of industrial development, focus on key highlights, strengthen technology research and development, coordinate technological innovation and industrialization promotion related work, and promote the development of the intelligent networked vehicle industry to achieve new results.
Intelligent networked vehicle refers to the organic combination of the Internet of Vehicles and intelligent vehicles, which is equipped with advanced on-board sensors, controllers, actuators and other devices, and integrates modern communication and network technology to realize the intelligent information exchange and sharing between vehicles and people, roads, backgrounds, etc., to achieve safety, comfort, energy saving, efficient driving, and ultimately a new generation of cars that can be operated by replacing people.
In the mainland, intelligent networked vehicles have huge room for development. IHS Markit data show that China's intelligent connected vehicle market penetration rate in 2019 is about 35.3%, with the upgrading of autonomous driving and network technology, the market penetration rate will reach 75.9% in 2025, and China is expected to become the world's largest intelligent networked vehicle market.
And capital has always "smelled" and "smelled" to go. According to incomplete statistics from Tianyancha, between 2012 and 2020, there were 530 financing incidents in the field of internet of vehicles, and the amount of financing reached 223.692 billion yuan. As of August 2021, there are more than 2,800 enterprises in the mainland whose names or business scope include related enterprises in the state of "Internet of Vehicles" in business, existence, migration and relocation, of which more than 1,600 related enterprises were established within 5 years, accounting for 59.2%.
At present, the mainland intelligent networked vehicle market has achieved certain results. According to Guo Shougang, deputy director of the First Department of Equipment Industry of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in the past year, the mainland's intelligent networked vehicles have shown a strong momentum of development, and the new car loading rate of passenger cars with combined auxiliary driving systems has increased to about 20%, of which the new car loading rate of new energy vehicles has exceeded 30%; the on-board basic computing platform has realized the loading application, and the computing power of vehicle-level lidar and artificial intelligence chips has reached the international advanced level; the national open test area is 5,000 square kilometers, and the total test mileage is more than 10 million kilometers. More than 800 road test licenses were issued, more than 3,500 kilometers of roads were intelligently transformed and upgraded, and the automatic driving application of large port freight vehicles accounted for 50%.
Landing takes time
When it comes to the future development direction of intelligent networked vehicles, automatic driving is the trend of the times, and it can be seen that many companies have made certain achievements in automatic driving technology.
It is reported that Baidu's automatic driving safety test mileage has reached 6 million kilometers, and the manned test has exceeded 100,000 person-times, which can already achieve the safe operation of some urban roads, closed highways, and park scenic spots. As of July last year, Baidu Apollo Autonomous Driving has obtained 293 test road licenses nationwide, including the highest level and the most complex Beijing T4 level license. Baidu itself has also declared that the success rate of Apollo's autonomous driving urban roads has reached 99.99%, and the comprehensive safety is higher than that of human drivers.
In addition, according to the official announcement of Xiaoma Zhixing, in December last year, Xiaoma Zhixing became the first company to conduct a self-driving truck road test on China's public highways, and at the same time, Xiaoma Zhixing was also the only company with a self-driving truck road test license in Beijing and Guangzhou; in November last year, Xiaoma Zhixing, as one of the first enterprises, was approved to carry out the pilot commercialization of autonomous driving Robotaxi in Beijing At present, Xiaoma Zhixing is also one of the first companies to conduct autonomous driving road tests in the four first-tier cities in China.
The Beijing Business Daily reporter interviewed Xiaoma Zhixing, SenseTime and other companies on the current development and application of intelligent networked vehicles, and did not receive a reply as of press time.
It is worth noting that automatic driving from zero to full automation is divided into L0-L5 six levels, the mainland is now on the market of autonomous vehicles mainly L2, L3 level, L4 and above due to high technical difficulty, strict landing requirements, it is difficult to achieve in the short term.
"The products of automatic driving are still mainly in the experimental stage, and the technology is relatively rudimentary, which can only play a certain auxiliary role, and cannot be applied on a large scale in a short period of time." To reach the driverless level, the car itself must have very accurate sensing and emergency handling capabilities, of course, this is also closely related to the infrastructure of the road. Zhang Yi, CEO of Ai Media Consulting, said.
So, when will it be possible to achieve true driverlessness? It is reported that at the 17th Super Automotive Forum, Wei Dong, vice president and chief safety operation officer of Baidu Intelligent Driving Business Group, pointed out that the realization of L5-level automatic driving must have a good ecology, both policy elements and infrastructure elements, including technological maturity, interconnection capabilities, etc. According to the current path of technological evolution and the maturity of supporting conditions, it is judged that the L4 level automatic driving scale in 2024-2025 has the opportunity to be promoted, and the small-scale operation of the all-unmanned demonstration application on the basis of L4 is no problem.
