Because of his active work and down-to-earth work, he came to the company headquarters for more than three months and joined the Communist Party of China on June 27, 76, when there was no preparatory period, and he was the first recruit to join the party in 1975.
After joining the party, Chi Yonglin's comrades-in-arms set stricter demands on themselves. For a while, instructor Gu Longting took the recruits, deputy company commander Fang Guoxian, deputy instructor Zhang Wengui went to guide the work of the construction company (one battalion and two companies), and only company commander Liu Weicheng, clerk Li Gangxian, and trumpet officer Cai Shengxian were left in the company.

In March 1977, the company arranged for Chi Yonglin's comrades to work after work, and he went to the fourth shift as the deputy squad leader. During the training of the regimental teaching team, he studied military technology assiduously, and in a grenade throwing competition, he threw 65 meters of bombs and won the second place in the training team. Back in the class, the squad leader Song Xingde (the main force of the company basketball team) was transferred to the regimental basketball team for one year, and he assumed the work responsibilities of the squad leader, leading by example and playing an exemplary and leading role everywhere in the work of the head of the army. Under his leadership, the whole class of soldiers scrambled to do their work, and everyone competed to be advanced. In 1977, the railway of the Yanbai Line had entered the tail sweeping stage, and the Songhua River Railway Bridge had also been laid. Most of the company of the whole regiment began to go north to build the Yimin Line on the Hulunbuir steppe, and our company left a small number of personnel to be responsible for tail sweeping work, and four squads were among them. The whole regiment urgently needed timber to settle in the Hulunbuir grassland, and according to the deployment requirements of the company headquarters, Chi Yonglin's comrades led the whole class of soldiers to the mountain to cut wood.
Changbai Mountain, one of the top ten famous mountains in China. Named after many white pumice stones and snow, it is known as "a thousand years of snow pine, straight up to the first peak in the world". The primary forest of Changbai Mountain is typically an "underground forest", which is a fire mouth forest. The Hongshi Township Chuankoutun where my company is located is near the bottom of the Shimengou Valley in its Huokou Forest.
The valley bottom forest is about 3 kilometers long from north to south, and the ancient pines are towering and green, and the boulders are scattered and varied. Every day, Chi Yonglin took the whole class of comrades to go to the deep mountains of Shimengou to cut wood at 4:30 a.m. every day.

At that time, there was no power supply in the forest, and there was no chainsaw, so the original artificial saw was used. In the field work, Chi Yonglin not only took the lead in pulling and sawing the logging himself, but also used his comrades-in-arms to change the time to rest slightly, picked up an axe to cut down branches, and instructed the comrades-in-arms to cut wood according to the specifications, saw it in sections, and then took out a leather ruler to check the ruler one by one. After exceeding the logging task every day, he directed the whole class to carry the wood to the tractor hand in hand.
Once, Chi Yonglin was intently pulling a saw with his comrades-in-arms, the sawn gap was only one-fifth of the diameter of the wood, the tree was crumbling and about to fall, according to common sense, the wood should fall in the opposite direction of the saw, at this time, a strange wind suddenly blew in the forest, the tree fell to the comrades who were sawing the tree on the left, and the saw gap had begun to make a "hissing, hissing" sound. Only to see Chi Yonglin quickly drop the saw in his hand, rush forward, push away the comrades around him, the tree fell, the comrades were saved, and a major safety accident was avoided.
The soil of Changbai Mountain is mostly volcanic ash, rich in nutrients, but it is too loose, the tree roots are relatively shallow, occasionally stormy, and often uprooted. As the leader of the class, Chi Yonglin not only cares about the progress of the work, but also cares about the weather and the impact of the weather changes on the completion of the task, and always puts the safety of his comrades in the first place.
