Replace wired networks! MediaTek successfully demonstrated Wi-Fi 7 for the first time in the world: see you next year

MediaTek officially announced that it has successfully completed a live demonstration of Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) technology in the industry, and is expected to release a new Filogic Wi-Fi 7 wireless connectivity platform product in 2023.

It is reported that MediaTek brought two technical demonstrations of Wi-Fi 7 to major customers and industry partners, showing high-speed, low-latency transmission performance.

Through the demonstration, MediaTek verified that Filogic Wi-Fi 7 technology can achieve peak speeds defined by IEEE 802.11be, along with "multilink operation" (MLO) technology.

MLO technology can aggregate multiple channels on different frequency bands at the same time, even if the frequency band is disturbed or congested, it can still continue to transmit data stably without significant delay fluctuations, which is critical for applications such as video streams and games that require constant, continuous, real-time transmission.

MediaTek stressed that since the Wi-Fi 7 technology was proposed, MediaTek has been actively involved in research and development and is one of the first companies to adopt the technology.

According to reports, Wi-Fi 7 will support 2.4GHz, 5GHz, 6GHz three major frequency bands, and through the 320MHz channel, 4K QAM quadrature amplitude modulation technology, using the same number of antenna conditions, the transmission speed is up to 2.4 times faster than Wi-Fi 6, is expected to be as fast as 30Gbps.

In terms of functionality, in addition to MLO, which transmits data in multiple bands to reduce latency, there are multi-user resource units (MRU) that reduce and avoid signal interference, 16x16 UL/DL MU-MIMO, multi-AP collaboration, and more.

The Wi-Fi 7 Standards Working Group was established in May 2019 and will follow two Release phases, with release 1 expected to be completed by the end of 2022 and Release 2 expected to be completed by the end of 2024, when the formal specification for Wi-Fi 7 will be seen.

Xu Haojun, deputy general manager of MediaTek and general manager of the Intelligent Connectivity Division, said that after the birth of Wi-Fi 7, it can truly replace high-bandwidth wired networks, provide strong core network capabilities for home, commercial and industrial networks, and further promote the development of multiplayer AR/VR, cloud games, 4K video calls, 8K streaming media and other application scenarios.
