On January 19, MediaTek announced that it was the first to successfully complete a live demonstration of Wi-Fi 7 technology, and the upcoming MediaTek Filogic Wi-Fi 7 wireless connectivity platform has outstanding performance. MediaTek brought two Wi-Fi 7 technology demonstrations to major customers and industry partners, demonstrating high-speed and low-latency transmission performance.

Xu Haojun, Deputy General Manager and General Manager of MediaTek's Smart Connectivity Division, said: "The launch of Wi-Fi 7 marks that Wi-Fi can truly replace high-bandwidth wired/Ethernet technologies. MediaTek's Wi-Fi 7 technology will provide powerful core network capabilities for home, commercial, and industrial networks, providing seamless connectivity for applications such as multiplayer AR/VR applications, cloud gaming, 4K video calling, and 8K streaming. ”

MediaTek verified that its Filogic Wi-Fi 7 technology can achieve peak speeds as defined by IEEE 802.11be. MediaTek also showcased multilink operation (MLO) technology, which can aggregate multiple channels on different frequency bands at the same time, even if the frequency band is disturbed or congested, data can still be transmitted seamlessly, enabling faster and more reliable network connectivity, which is essential for applications such as video streaming and games that require constant, continuous and real-time throughput.

Mario Morales, vice president of global semiconductor research at IDC, said: "Faster broadband network access, higher resolution video streaming applications and VR gaming are driving the demand for Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7. Wi-Fi 7 enhances new features such as bandwidth, QAM, and multilink operations (MLO), making these new features attractive to vertical industry devices such as flagship smartphones, PCs, consumer electronics, retail, and industrial, and service providers can begin to deploy more broadly in these segments. “

Moon Ho Lee, President of Mercury Korea, said: "Today's consumers want a continuous, stable, reliable and high-speed Wi-Fi connection for applications such as video calls, 4K/8K TV entertainment and real-time gaming. MediaTek's Wi-Fi 7 technology can meet all of consumers' current application needs, and also opens the door to future applications such as AR/VR that we can't imagine at the moment. ”

Wi-Fi 7 offers completely new features for all available Wi-Fi spectrum, including 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz. Wi-Fi 7 can transmit 2.4 times faster than Wi-Fi 6 with 320MHz channel and 4K quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) technology using the same number of antennas. Important features of Wi-Fi 7 also include MLO technology that reduces latency by transmitting data across multiple Wi-Fi bands, and multi-user resource unit (MRU) capabilities that reduce and avoid signal interference.

MediaTek has been actively involved in research and development since the birth of the Wi-Fi 7 standard and was one of the first companies to adopt the technology. MediaTek's Wi-Fi 7 technology is expected to be available in 2023.
