The Chinese Embassy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo reminds my citizens not to travel to high-risk areas for the time being

Recently, the public security situation in The province of Haute-Katanga and Lualaba in the southeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has continued to deteriorate. Recently, there have been many vicious cases such as gun robbery against Chinese enterprises and citizens in Koluwezi, Lubumbashi, Likasi and other places. The perpetrators are well organized, professional in their methods and have strong destructive power. Cases of theft and robbery involving Chinese personnel in the capital, Kinshasa and other areas have also occurred from time to time.

On January 19, local time, the Chinese Embassy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) issued a security circular, once again solemnly reminding Chinese citizens not to go to ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu and other high-risk security areas in the eastern DRC. Chinese citizens who are already in the local area should report their personal information to the embassy as soon as possible and evacuate as soon as possible if they have not yet reported. For those who refuse to report information and insist on going to or staying in the above three provinces, all the consequences arising therefrom will be borne by the individual.

The circular said that Chinese citizens and Chinese-funded institutions in the territory of the Congo are requested to fully understand the seriousness and complexity of the current security situation, regard security work as the top priority, resolutely put an end to paralyzing thinking and fluke psychology, pay close attention to the local security situation, strengthen the awareness of risk prevention, base themselves on bottom-line thinking, and increase security investment with the highest standards.

The circular said that Chinese-funded institutions and Chinese citizens located in Lualaba and Upper Katanga provinces are invited to strengthen security assessments, take practical measures to strengthen security protection, and avoid unnecessary outings. Relevant enterprises should reduce non-essential personnel and conscientiously do a good job in adjusting the emergency plan for production and operation and personnel arrangements under emergency situations.

In case of emergency, please call the police and contact the embassy.
