"Behind the height of the building is the dream of a city." Louis Sullivan, the father of Chicago's skyscrapers and a pioneer of modernism, defined the relationship between building height and the city in this way.
Skyscrapers are a milestone in the progress of modern social civilization and architectural skills, and the most intuitive symbol of the economic prosperity of a city and a region. According to the Definition of the World Association of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), buildings over 300 meters are called supertalls. Up to now, there are 121 completed super high-rise buildings in the world, while China continues to lead the world in the number of 6 new skyscrapers of more than 300 meters in 2021.
The following are six skyscrapers over 300 meters in China to be completed in 2021, and the height data is collected from CTBUH.
1. Dongguan Minying International Trade Center T2 / Height 422.6 meters
Minying International Trade Center is located in the northeast corner of the intersection of Dongguan Avenue and Hongfu East Road in Dongcheng Street, Dongguan City, with a total construction area of about 1.03 million square meters and a total investment of more than 10 billion yuan. The 422.6-meter-tall T2 Tower was inaugurated in October 2021 and is the tallest building in China in 2021.
The project is invested by Minying Group, with 5+ Design of the United States and Shenzhen Watson Design co-designing the architectural scheme design, Arup as the structural consultant, Hassell Yijing Division in Australia as the interior design consultant, SWA in the United States responsible for landscape design, and China Construction Fifth Bureau South China Company as the construction.
The shape of Minying International Trade Center T2 stretches upwards from the regular square of the base to an octagonal shape, and T1, T2, and T3 are used as high-density super high-rise building complexes. The visual corridor of the T4 and T5 skylines, its height is controlled below 100 meters, and the total height of the commercial podium is controlled below 35 meters, maintaining the Yellow Flag Mountain Viewing Corridor, so that the overall look and feel of the building is in line with the natural and historical scenery.
2. Wuhan Enterprise World A1 / 376 meters
Wuhan is known as the "Chicago of the East" because it is located in the center of China, just like Chicago is located in the heart of the United States, and has a considerable lake area. In recent years, the number of skyscrapers in Wuhan has soared, and there is one more feature similar to That of Chicago.
Completed in 2021, Wuhan Enterprise World A1, with a construction area of about 180,000 square meters and a height of 376 meters, is the tallest building along the Yangtze River in Wuhan. The project was invested by Ryan Real Estate and designed by Perry Clark Perry Architects (PCPA).
The architecture takes the sail of the times as the design language, the simple and smooth exquisite structure and the upright posture of shooting straight into the sky, witnessing the magnificent momentum of wuhan's urban development, the capital of Hubei Province in central China and known as the "Thoroughfare of Nine Provinces".
3. Shenzhen Grand Parkway Plaza / 375.6 meters
Shenzhen Grand Parkway Plaza project is located in the core area of Shenzhen Futian CBD, with a height of 375.6 meters, is the second tallest building in Futian District, with a total construction scale of about 158,390 square meters, covering an area of 4,133 square meters, four underground floors and 77 floors above ground.
The project was designed by Chikubo Design Co., Ltd. The towers are divided from bottom to top, forming a straight volume; the curved corners give the impression of elegance, brightness and friendliness.
4. Qingdao Haitian Center / 368.9 meters
Located in the coastal area of Qingdao CBD in Shandong Province, Haitian Center contains three super high-rise towers, the tallest tower is 368.9 meters high, which is the tallest building in Shandong Province and Qingdao City.
The project was designed by Architect Architecture. Inheriting the historical context and coastal environment of the site, the design extracts the concept of "Sea Rhyme" to express the natural organic curve and dynamic energy of the sea, and takes the hexagonal plane as the starting point of the shape, shifts the two ends of the hexagon with the height of the two ends layer by layer, creates a vertical curve on the main façade, and skillfully transforms the marine elements into a design language.
Undulating waves are expressed through the curved walls of the podium, while gentle ripples are reflected in the arrangement of the curtain walls. The ripples of light and the blue waves are the poetic effect of glass formed under the refraction of sunlight.
5. Guangxi Jintou Center / 330 meters
Guangxi Golden Investment Center is located in No. 180 Minzu Avenue, Nanning City, with a total investment of 4.5 billion yuan, a height of 330 meters, a total of 76 floors, a total construction area of about 280,000 square meters, is a new business card of Nanning City, creating a new model of business and financial investment in beibu bay.
The project was designed by Pulitzer Prize winner Master John Portman in collaboration with the Shanghai Design Institute. The tower's unique shape is inspired by the Chinese image of the Panlong, using the staggered curtain wall design and the contrast of horizontal and vertical lines to create a simple and neat architectural shape, rising and standing on one side.
6. Hengqin Square / 309.5 meters
Located in Hengqin, Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai, Zhongjietong Hengqin Plaza was built by CCCC South Investment and Development Co., Ltd., and jointly designed by Huajian Group Urban General Hospital and American Gensler Architects. The total land area of the project is 32,453 square meters, the total construction area is about 280,000 square meters, and the height of the main tower is 309.4 meters, which is the tallest building in China's communications construction.
