An American overclocking player, MllrKllr, using ASRock's Z690 Aqua OC motherboard with air cooling, achieved an astonishing DDR5 memory speed of 7960MHz.
The record was achieved by an air-cooled system consisting of the Intel Core i9-12900K, ASRock Z690 Aqua OC motherboard, and ten-quan T-Force Delta RGB 16GB. MllrKllr believes he can achieve better results when he switches to liquid nitrogen cooling.
ASRock Z690 Aqua series motherboards are ASRock's high-end products, competing with ASUS Maximus Extreme, MSI Godlike and other products. But interestingly, the Aqua is available in two versions, one of which is only two memory slots, and this motherboard is designed for extreme overclocking, so it does not have the fancy variety of features on other flagship motherboards.
The memory used by mllrKllr is ten-quan T-Force Delta RGB DDR5-6400, which is 40-40-40-84 at rated voltage of 1.35V. Overclockers have been trying to get higher speeds and scores. Once upon a time, 4000 on DDR4 was a very good memory, but over time, DDR4 running 5000 was also taken for granted by players.
Although DDR5 is still in the early stages of development, it is certain that the speed will continue to increase. It's only a matter of time before overclocking players break through the 10,000MHz barrier.
