But Lithuania is different, Lithuania is part of the Soviet Union, but there is too much hatred in history, so Lithuania looks at it, you don't want those countries, I am such a small country, what do you want me to do? I would have to unite with the two baltic brothers, Estonia and Latvia, to become independent.
When a part of a country demands independence, what should this central government do, in fact, we can look at the American Civil War.
When the American Civil War was in that year, the South was actually very angry.
The South said that when we joined the United States, we called it the United States, and everyone made it very clear that we joined in from state to state, and we bundled up as an independent country against Europe.
And we said at the time, if one day our state doesn't want to join, just quit.
I have the right to come in and I have the right to quit, so why should the Yankees beat me?
But Lincoln didn't see it that way.
Lincoln believed that the nascent United States was an independent state, and the so-called withdrawal of these Southern states was rebellion.

How could this not be the case for the central government of the SOVIET Union?

So in order to cope with Lithuania's independence, the Soviet army really sent people - 500,000 troops stationed in Lithuania.

The Soviet army's defense of national sovereignty and independent territorial integrity was demonized by Westerners as an invasion of Lithuania.
