It is said that in the animal world, cheetahs are the fastest animals. But there is also such a "cheetah" in the National Speed Skating Hall, its running speed is as high as 90 kilometers per second, which is more than any speed skater who comes to participate in the Beijing Winter Olympics, so the name "Cheetah" is worthy of the name.

But this "cheetah" is not a new breed in the animal kingdom, but an ultra-high-speed 4K orbital camera system specially developed by CCTV for the Beijing Winter Olympics.

As the head of the Special Equipment Section of CCTV, Zhao Wei has been testing a special camera system with his team for 2021, a huge piece of equipment composed of gyroscopes, rail cars and 360-meter-long U-shaped tracks that occupy the outermost side of the National Speed Skating Tube Track.

The ultra-high-speed 4K orbital camera system is a special camera equipment developed by the Central Radio and Television Corporation over the past five years, which is specially used for the broadcast of the speed skating events of the Winter Olympic Games. In March 2021, at the "Meet in Beijing" test match, the "Cheetah" debuted amazingly, because it followed the athletes galloping on the 400-meter track, and every move could not escape the eyes of the "Cheetah", because it also had a 4K HD capture capability, so it made the live TV footage it came from the visual impact, and the exaggerated posture of the athletes during the competition and the excited expression of the moment of the dash were unobstructed, and there was no omission.

In the Winter Olympic speed skating competition, athletes can reach speeds of 15 to 18 meters per second, which is equivalent to about 50 kilometers per hour, while top athletes can reach speeds of 70k kilometers per hour. But cheetah is the "cheetah", CCTV this ultra-high-speed 4K orbital camera system design technical standards can reach 25 meters per second, about 90 kilometers per hour, which makes it like a master of the competition, closely following the athletes on the track.

What's even better is that CCTV "Cheetah" can not only track athletes step by step, but also can accelerate, slow down and surpass according to the needs of live broadcasting, so as to capture various scenes in speed skating competitions more flexibly and casually.

At present, with the completion of the pre-race preparations of the National Speed Skating Hall, the ultra-high-speed 4K orbital camera system has also completed all the test work. Now, the technical team led by Zhao Wei is looking forward to the appearance of the "Cheetah" on the first day of the National Speed Skating Hall on February 5. Although due to the epidemic, the vast majority of spectators cannot personally visit the National Speed Skating Hall to watch the speed skating competition of the Beijing Winter Olympics, but with this "cheetah" waiting in the museum, as long as they watch the live broadcast of the Winter Olympic Games on CCTV, sports fans who love speed skating around the world will have an unprecedented and magical viewing experience.
