This year, this "super water diversion project" runs through the whole line, which starts from the Xiaoshan hub in Hangzhou, diverts the water of the Fuchun River, and is divided into two parallel roads, the northern line passes through the Cao'e River to Cixi, and the southern line passes through the Cao'e River to Ningbo and Zhoushan - truly realizing the "spring water of one river flowing east".

Although it has a coastline of 76 kilometers, there are no major rivers in transit, there is no abundant water reserve conditions, the inherent conditions of water resources are insufficient, the per capita water resources are low, and the per capita annual water resources are 495 cubic meters, which is only a quarter of the country and one-third of the province.
"During the drought in 2003, the water in the river network was close to the dry water level, and this spring the drought situation was more serious than in 2003, but the water used in the river network, industry and agriculture was not affected in the slightest, thanks to the important support guarantee of water diversion in eastern Zhejiang." Since 2004, Cixi has successively implemented four major overseas water diversion projects such as Yuyao Lianghui Reservoir Diversion, Xiayao River Emergency Water Diversion, Shaoxing Tangpu Reservoir Water Diversion, and Zhejiang East Water Diversion Project, with a direct investment of more than 1.8 billion yuan, and the total amount of water that can be diverted annually has reached 333 million cubic meters, of which 93 million cubic meters of drinking water and 240 million cubic meters of river water (Zhejiang East Water Diversion) has greatly alleviated the city's water shortage.

As a native of Zhoushan, Ye Shanjun, director of the Water Resources Department of the Zhoushan Water Conservancy Bureau, has the impression that when he was a child, the water used at home was regular and quantitative. "At that time, everyone needed to line up with buckets to pick up water. In the summer, 8 to 9 p.m. is the time for water supply, and when you forget to pick up the water, you run out of water the next day. ”
Such a scene is vividly remembered by many old Zhoushan people. In 1995 and 1996, zhoushan drought, the city's more than 3,000 reservoirs, mountain ponds dried up, the river cracked, because of the lack of water, can only be from Ningbo, Shanghai a boat to the island, a limited time to supply water, to maintain the people's life.
In order to alleviate the current situation of water shortage in Zhoushan, the mainland water diversion project came into being and was included as an important part of the water diversion project in eastern Zhejiang, effectively solving the water shortage problem in Zhoushan. The domestic water supply of citizens has been guaranteed, and the water supply capacity of enterprises has also been greatly improved.

The total reservoir capacity of Dasha Reservoir is 8.88 million cubic meters, which can supply Zhoushan with domestic water for about a month after being fully stored. ”
