Photography is a feeling, a touch, a way of loving: Aaron Siskind
Born in 1903 in New York, USA, Aaron Siskinder is a well-known representative of Abstract Expressionism. He began his exposure to photography in 1930, joined the New York Photography League in 1932, and in the 1930s created several important series of images of social consciousness, including the "Harlem Papers" The 1940s and 1950s were the culmination of his work, during which he created his most famous work, Chicago 59.
Aaron Siskinder's work mostly focuses on architectural and natural details, most notably his black-and-white close-ups, as well as aerial photographs of surfaces and objects. Due to the anamorphic nature of monochromatics and the lack of scale or background, Siskinder's photographs look both sculptural, monumental, or small and painterly. For some, his work has been described as crossing the boundaries between photography and painting, and his photographs are works unique to the photographic art form.
