Their houses are occupied and cannot be driven away, but it is the owners who are detained

Paris, January 18 (Ruga) A house in the Seine-Saint-Denis (93) department of the Paris region has been occupied since November 1, 2021, and the owner, Youssef (pseudonym), has repeatedly called the police but has been unable to evict the occupiers, so he contacts multiple people on social platforms to help him get justice. Bobigny's prosecutor's office said that a total of 23 people were detained on the evening of the 15th under the name of "insult", "gang violence" and "invasion of houses" and were released on the 17th, but the investigation will continue.

According to Le Figaro, Yousef, who is unemployed in his 30s and receives the Active Mutual Aid Income Allowance (RSA), lives in the House in Bobigny with his mother in her 70s until the fall of 2021. On October 13, 2021, when he came home from the supermarket and found that the gate had been destroyed and there were two young men, a woman and a pit bull in the house, they threw Yousef's clothes into the basement, claiming to have given someone 3500 euros to live here, and if Yousef did not return the money, they would not leave. Youssef immediately called the police station, and the police drove the men away, but they returned a few minutes later, with multiple interventions by law enforcement officers, and the men eventually left the scene. The next day, Youssef and his mother reported the crime.

However, on November 1, the occupiers returned and could not leave. One of them told police that Yousef had cheated them of 3,500 euros and threatened to kill Yousef. "They broke the windshield of my car, broke the door, wreaked havoc in the house, and it was I who was on trial," Yousef said. ”

At that time, the matter was in the media, and many residents of the province of Seine-Saint-Denis were indignant and could not stand idly by. Elias, a young nurse, said, "A friend told me what we should do to help Yousef and I was persuaded. From a moral point of view, the matter is shameful. ”

After communicating on the social platform, 26 people met at about 20:00 on the evening of the 15th at a distance of hundreds of meters from the house, most of them students. Yousef and her sister and mother waited in front of the broken door, and everyone had agreed not to use violence against the occupiers, but not to be intimidated, and to be careful, because there might be children in the room.

Since the door had been damaged, they pushed in, and there was a couple and their child of about three years old, as well as two men. As soon as Yousef entered the house, he shed tears, and the room was dirty. Elias took the lady and children in the room to a car waiting at the door, just as the police arrived.

Fabrice, who participated in the operation, said, "We just want to help them get home, after all, this is their home." The family's elderly mother is 75 years old and has health problems. We worked together, with the family escorted to protect them from squatters, someone taking the woman and the child to pack their bags, some hoping to drive the man out of the house. But the police came and arrested and detained most of them. "They (the police) grabbed my hood and told me to leave and threatened me with batons." ”

Lawyer Ismaël Meziti was willing to take over the case, defending Youssef and other defendants. He stated that the defendants simply wanted to peacefully evict the unauthorized "occupiers", who were themselves violent elements and threatened the owners, who acted in self-defence. And he found it strange that the police were involved when the situation was about to be resolved.

According to Bobini's prosecutor's office, when the police arrived, there were about 50 people at the scene, including people called by the occupiers, and a total of 23 team members who tried to evict the "squatters" were arrested on charges of "gang violence", "deliberate destruction", "invasion of houses" and "forced people to leave without complying with state procedures", and the judiciary will investigate.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, whether these "occupiers" occupied the premises without authorization or tenants remains to be investigated. In any case, it is not possible to call someone unrelated to the incident to solve their own problems, but to follow the legal route for deportation.
