Kabul, 19 Jan (Xinhua) -- Acting Prime Minister Hassan Ahunde called on the international community to recognize the provisional government established by the Taliban and establish diplomatic relations with it at an economic meeting held by the Afghan Provisional Government on 19 January.

Hassan Ahund said Afghanistan was at a critical stage in the country's development history and that the government would do its best to address economic issues. Countries that call themselves human rights defenders have frozen Afghan assets abroad, exposing the Afghan population to a humanitarian crisis.

In his speech, Abdel Salam Hanafi, acting deputy prime minister of the Afghan Interim Government, said that over the past 20 years, the Afghan economy has relied heavily on foreign aid, which is not only detrimental to economic development, but also breeds corruption. Afghanistan cannot always rely on aid, and its economic construction should be based on domestic development and self-sufficiency.

Speaking at the meeting, Acting Foreign Minister Mottaki of the Afghan Interim Government said that Afghanistan pursues a neutral, balanced and economically centred foreign policy, with the goal of building relations with countries on the basis of economic mutual benefit, while developing Afghanistan into a regional economic hub. He said the Afghan interim government would do its utmost to create a safer environment for investors. He also called on the United States to unfreeze the foreign assets of afghanistan's central bank.

On August 30, 2021, a U.S. military transport plane carrying the last of the U.S. servicemen left Kabul, ending the 20-year war in Afghanistan. On September 7 of the same year, the Afghan Taliban announced the formation of an interim government, with Hassan Ahundé as acting prime minister.
