In the 1930s, the Art Deco movement influenced design in many different industries, and the automotive industry was no exception. In the 1930s, when most people couldn't even afford to buy food, the high-end auto industry was growing at a rapid pace. Some of these features, such as front-wheel drive and electric wipers, are far ahead of their time.
Most importantly, a huge leap in style. Aerodynamics, streamlines and decorative arts are all the rage, making the automobile a popular pop culture that is highly ornamental and artistic.
After the wall street crash in October 1929, the U.S. auto industry suffered a heavy blow. In the 1920s, due to the depression, car sales were not much, but the modification, styling and design of cars still attracted many buyers. Chrome and streamlined cars were very typical in the late 1930s, and American cars changed in the thirties, with cars transforming from the traditional square style popular in the early thirties to the streamlined (teardrop-shaped) cars of the late thirties.
