Mai Jia is a well-deserved master of comedy, with a shiny bald head, a thin and sensitive body, and an authentic Shandong dialect that makes everyone who has seen him exclaim, this guy is born to be a comedian material. Just like the king of comedy, Stephen Chow, commented on Mai Jia: "As long as he stops wherever he goes, he can make you laugh with just one sentence." Although Mai Jia has such a good talent for funny, his comedy skills are truly acquired. Compared with many actors, the growth path is to act and direct, but Mai Jia is directed and excellent and acted.
Mai Jia was born in a wealthy family in Taishan City, Guangzhou Province, his parents were particularly concerned about his growing environment from childhood, and when he grew up, Mai Jia carefully chose his employment direction, and went to college in New York alone for ten years, first pursuing an electrical engineering major at Brooklyn Polytechnic University, and then admitted to the film department and fine arts department of New York University. While other actors began to accumulate industry experience early, Mai Jia devoted all her time to the school, jumping between favorite majors, and repeatedly determining what was the right career direction for her.
In 1973, the 29-year-old Mak Ka returned to Hong Kong to find a job as a director, because he had completed the filming of three gunfight films such as "007 Man with a Golden Gun" and "Golden Needle" as an assistant director during his schooling in the United States, so many well-known comedians in the Hong Kong film circle at that time often exchanged and discussed technology with him. In the process of this exchange, Mai Jia was also lucky to meet two confidants, Huang Baiming and Shi Tian, and the three of them decided to start the Struggle Film Company as soon as they hit it off, and in the early days of the company, Mai Jia directed the action comedy "The Unknown Pawn".
In the 1980s, there were three major cinema lines in the Hong Kong film industry, Jiahe, Shaw and Golden Princess, of which Lei Juekun, president of golden princess cinema line, was particularly good at digging talents. When Struggle Film Company had just attracted attention for its unique film ideas, Lei Juekun immediately acquired the company and renamed it New Art City Film Company. At the beginning of the establishment of the new company, not only did they move into a new office space of nearly 1,000 meters, but also added four actors, Xu Ke, Shi Nansheng, Zeng Zhiwei and Teddy Robin. No one thought that the company founded by these seven young people, although it only survived for ten years, but in the 1980s, the Hong Kong film industry was a prominent existence, even if it was the second of the other three major theaters at that time, Jiahe and Shaw joined forces to fight, they were still defeated, and within the Hong Kong film circle, this creative team was known as the "Seven Monsters of New Art City".
In 1981, New Art City completed the first work "Ghost Horse Zhi DuoXing", which was produced by Mai Jia and directed by Xu Ke as soon as it was broadcast, it was widely sought after by the people, not only won the box office champion of that year, but also won six nominations at the Taiwan Golden Horse Awards Ceremony, and finally won the three awards of Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Editing. After this battle, the strength of the creative team of New Art City is beyond doubt.
During the filming of the follow-up film "Best Partner", Mai Jia took advantage of his strengths in electronic engineering, and he boldly and innovatively integrated stunts such as high-speed vehicles and electronic weapons into film production. Sure enough, the trendy high-tech made the audience and friends shine, and the box office of "Best Partner" also directly set the first film circle record in Hong Kong to break through 20 million, and then the best partner was made into a series of movies, and it won the annual box office champion of Hong Kong films for three consecutive years.
McGaard's performance in the Best Partner series is spectacular, and fans affectionately refer to him as "Skinhead Detective". At the 2nd Hong Kong Film Awards Ceremony, Mak Ka shared the Best Actor Award with Hong Jinbao, which is the only double-yellow film emperor in the history of the Academy Awards. Mai Jia, who stood at the award ceremony, smiled very happily, not only because the honor of the Golden Statue Emperor was worthy of his cheers, but more importantly, Mai Jia, as the big boss behind the scenes of the new art city, gained a huge fortune. Originally, there was a contract for the distribution of revenue in the early days of the establishment of New Art City Company, and Mai Jia and Golden Princess Cinema Line divided 72% of the income of New Art City equally, while Shi Tian and Huang Baiming could only get 28% of the income.
The vast majority of new art city films are comedies, with more than a dozen films grossing up to HK$10 million alone, and the "Happy Ghost" series and the "Best Partner" series have repeatedly set hong Kong film box office records. As the profits of New Art City increased year by year, the property gap between the team members also widened, and for a while people were panicked, just when the internal war was about to erupt, there was a fatal incident of team dissolution, and Mai Jia and Shi Tian's enthusiasm for movies began to decline because of the high returns of stocks.
1991 was a huge harvest year for Mai Jia, not only with Stephen Chow in the movie "Love Saint" as a well-versed "love fairy", so that the audience was addicted to the cooperation between the two comedy masters, but also caught up with the golden period of soaring house prices in Hong Kong, the real estate business he invested in was all rising, although in this year the New Art City Film and Television Company announced the dissolution, but Mai Jia's assets were not affected at all and are still rising steadily.
Whether it is the clever "skinhead detective" image in the comedy movie, or the high education of New York University in reality, or the strength of the big boss behind the new art city company, it will not be reminiscent of Mai Jia actually believing in the words of the feudal superstitious feng shui master one day, putting all his savings into American stocks, and eventually all his assets are lost.
After the failure of investing in stocks in the United States, the 56-year-old Mai Jia also had to return to acting, first starring in the movie "The Big Winner", then interviewing Hong Kong topic figures as the host of "Three Skinheads", and finally he and Huang Baiming created and starred in the TV series "The Legend of Jigong", until 2006, Mai Jia still insisted on working, directing the comedy TV series "The First Bucket of Gold".
Although Mai Jia's old age property is scattered because of superstitious feng shui, people are lamented, but at the age of 20, he knows how to get rid of impetuosity, and the behavior of spending ten years to find his own career direction is worth our deep thinking, the salary can only be maintained for a period of time, and true love is the long-term solution to work.
