"A Beautiful Mind" director Ron Howard belongs to the Hollywood tradition of directors, filming with the most clichéd entry points. Just like this film, the audiovisual links such as the giant whale attack, the wind and waves swallowing, the mast breaking the big boat, and the overturning of the dinghy are magnificent and exquisite, breathtaking, but there is no novel breakthrough like the similar film "The Fantasy Drifting of the Young Pi".
The news of this film has focused on the cruel gimmick of "cannibalism", in order to cater to the commercial and grading system, it is not so dare to risk the world. But the end, with a heart of reverence for the sacrifice of the brave, sublimates the disasters of the crew into the vicissitudes of the times and contemplates the essence of human nature.
Adapted from the American writer Nathaniel. Philbrick's long-form documentary literature of the same name, with Ben Weschaud playing Melville, the author of Moby Dick, as the listener of the story, takes the audience back to the American whaling ship "Essex" in 1819, which is exactly the usual flattering technique of "Young Pi" and "The Pianist at Sea".
Slowly and methodically laying out the relationship between the characters, relying on the adventure guidance of the unknown, the Essex whaling ship set sail. At first, the partnership killed a lot of whales, and the top brass on the ship also said that no matter if anyone had a criminal record, everyone came to get whale oil, and they had to work together.
For more whale oil and money, the captain, first mate, and second lieutenant led everyone to the "depths of the ocean" without hesitation, then they shouted and punctured the skin of the giant whale with javelins, and nature's bloody terror retaliation can be described as changing the direction of the adventure plot.
Chris Hemsworth plays Chase, no longer has the power of "Thor", and he can only be relegated to the first mate due to his family lineage. As a rugged and brave outlaw, he is more insightful than the captain, and every time he is a pioneer, chasing the poor, and fighting desperately, he can retreat and steal the limelight from everyone.
Killian Murphy, "The New Spider-Man" Tom Holland and other stars, the character modeling dragonfly a little water, a bit of reading with the prince. Until hunger plagues everyone, after the decision to eat the corpses of the dead, and after the suicide process of the lottery, Frank Dylan, playing the captain's cousin Coffin, suddenly grabs the pistol and hangs himself to save his brother, and the feat of sacrifice in human nature is shocking at that moment.
Although this film does not reach the huge production of the nautical epic, the costume version of "Indestructible" plus the "Perfect Storm" mode also makes people's blood veins. The details of disasters such as dead sea monsters, dodging wind and waves, and desperate survival are all filmed vividly, but they are not tastelessly taught from the script.
Torrential rains, furious waves, and huge waves are coming, and the exquisite special effects are not half ambiguous. When the image of the sea with the yellow-green atmosphere, the people and monsters are clearly seen in the water, and the tail of the giant whale comes out, the breathtaking horror is terrifying, and the eyeballs are suddenly held!
When all the masts were instantly broken and destroyed, and the raging fire burned the ship again, at this time, the "Essex" was also so weak in the face of natural disasters, and its terrifying audiovisual spectacle was really breathtaking in post-production.
Although it does not have box office and awards, it is a masterpiece worthy of awe. The narrator concludes with the oil that emerges from the ground, bans the whale oil on the market, interprets the vicissitudes, and summarizes it with a sentence of "dare to challenge the places that others dare not challenge", allowing the audience to contemplate the fearless deaths and injuries caused by people in the old era who rushed their heads for profit.
Many human beings are blinded by greed, blinded by interests and desires, forgetting the terrible crisis and taking risks, how many brave lives have been swallowed up? Only one of the underrated masterpieces, Deep in the Ocean, is a moment of silence!
