Rural doctors under the epidemic situation can not only do nucleic acids, vaccinations, but also assist villagers in repairing water pipes

Health Times reporter Zhao Yuanzhi

At more than 10:00 p.m. on January 16, He Xinglong, a village doctor in Daning County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province, who had been busy for a day, still couldn't rest assured that the water pipe had just been repaired in the afternoon, so he drove to the village ditch 4 miles away from home at night to check the water pipe and water supply again, and when he came back, it was more than 11 o'clock at night.

"The mudslide caused by the torrential rain in October made the water pipes in the village bend and deformed by the silt in many places, and now that the temperature has cooled, the village has been cut off for more than 10 days, and I and the village cadres and villagers and nearly 20 people have dug for 3 days in a row to dredge the pipes, and it is about to be the New Year, so that the villagers have water available." He Xinglong told the Health Times reporter.

At the beginning of October 2021, there was extreme precipitation in most parts of Shanxi, and the torrential rains for several days triggered geological disasters such as flash floods and mudslides in some areas, and the precipitation in Daning County, Linfen City, where He Xinglong is located, reached 285.2 mm, which is the largest county in the province, which is deeply affected. After the disaster occurred, He Xinglong threw himself into flood prevention and disaster relief for the first time, in addition to providing basic medical diagnosis and treatment services for villagers, he also cooperated with the village committee to do a good job in flood prevention and disaster relief.

"When the disaster was rebuilt, the water pipes could still produce water normally after being pumped, but now the weather is getting colder, the water pipes are frozen, there is no running water, the villagers can only rely on the well in the village to get water, and the villagers have become a problem near the New Year, so they consult with the village cadres to check and repair." He Xinglong said.

"The villagers knew that the rainstorm had caused the water pipes to be crooked, and they thought that they would not be able to eat water this year, and they did not expect that everyone could drain the water together, which was quite unexpected." He Xinglong said that the village has been cut off from water for more than 10 days, and many villagers do not even dare to wash their clothes.

Under the epidemic situation, village doctors are not only the health guardians of villagers, but also can do nucleic acids, urge villagers to vaccinate, and do the "universal work" of villagers. When asked why he devoted himself to repairing water pipes, He Xinglong said, "I am still young, and as a party member, I should take the initiative to do more things for the villagers."
