Australian Open 2022: Mugulaza made it to the second round

On January 18, Beijing time, the second matchday of the 2022 Australian Open continued the first round of competition. In the opening match at rod Lavall Stadium, No. 3 seed Mugurazza defeated France's Brehr 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the second round against another French player, Coney, who defeated qualifier Tomowa 6-3, 6-3.

It was the first meeting between the two men in their careers. In the first set, the performance of the two sides in the service was slightly fluctuating, while Mugulaza was more stable, taking advantage of two more break opportunities than his opponents to take a 6-3 lead. In the second set, Mugurazza continued his good form in the first set, taking the lead in completing the break to take a 3-1 lead. The next four sets were saved by both sides, and although the Spanish star failed to save the serve in the subsequent win, it achieved a key break in the opponent's non-guaranteed serve, and Mugulaza locked in the victory 6-4, beating Brehr 2-0 on aggregate to advance to the second round.

In other matches, the 20th seed Kvitova was swept by Kostia 2-6, 2-6, and lost to the Australian Open for two consecutive years, missing the promotion. Peterson eliminated local player Gavrilova 6-2, 6-3, and Kukova defeated Mika Doi 6-3, 7-5 to advance to the second round.
