In the face of the enemy's powerful offensive, the New Fourth Army can concentrate only more than 20,000 troops, and in the face of the fatigue of the continuous combat troops, the food supply is difficult to solve, and the situation is very critical!
In order to preserve the living forces, buy time to rest the troops, and seek opportunities to annihilate the enemy, the Jiangsu-Zhejiang Military Region decided to abandon Tianmu Mountain, temporarily concentrate the main force on the area north of Xiaofeng, and once again confuse and lure the enemy with retreat, so as to create and capture favorable fighters.
The "fiasco" of the evacuation did not impress the enemy, but this time the enemy was really moved, thinking that the New Fourth Army really wanted to make a strategic retreat, so all the enemy troops on all sides wanted to take the opportunity to seize the opportunity to gain a head.
The enemy 52nd Division, eager to win, moved ahead of time, attacking from the right flank and directly attacking Xiaofeng City.

When the New Fourth Army learned from the enemy's captives that the enemy's 52nd Division had neglected to take precautions and that the lone army had driven straight in, Commander Su could not let go of this long-awaited opportunity, and he resolutely commanded the troops to turn back, retreat into advance, and launch an attack on the enemy's 52nd Division.
