The Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a masterpiece that shows us the people and events of the late Eastern Han Dynasty. There are many characters with distinct personalities in the Three Kingdoms, such as Cao Cao, who would rather teach me to bear the world than teach the people of the world to bear me, but the most admirable one is Changshan Zhao Zilong.
Zhao Yun was one of the Five Tiger Generals of the Shu Kingdom, one of Liu Bei's most powerful generals, and the founding hero of the Shu State. However, in the records of the Three Kingdoms, the five tigers made all the rest of them a marquis, so Why Zhao Yun has never been titled. In fact, if we think about it carefully, we can find that it was because of these three reasons.
Liu Bei was called the King's Road
Let's first look at how Liu Bei claimed to be the king and hegemon, liu Bei did not have any strength at the beginning, and he was only a straw shoe seller. Then Liu Bei met Zhang Fei and Guan Yu, and the three brothers taoyuan married and went to the Dong Alliance to discuss important matters.
Here in the alliance was the most nestful time in Liu Bei's life, because as a royal family member, he did not even have a seat. However, Liu Bei won the hearts and minds of the people with his benevolence and righteousness, and slowly developed, gradually having his own troops.
When Liu Bei had his own troops, his purpose was always to support the Han Dynasty and get rid of the thief Cao Cao. However, Cao Cao was holding Tianzi hostage to order the princes, and defeated Yuan Shao at the Battle of Guandu, becoming the most powerful prince in the Central Plains.
After Cao Cao's strength grew, the first thing he did was to kill Liu Bei completely, and Liu Bei had to take the people in the city with him when he fled for his life, but he lost his children. At this time, Zhao Zilong stepped forward and gave Liu Bei a military order to bring the child back unharmed.
Zhao Zilong jumped on the horse, and the next was the most brilliant moment of his life. After finding Liu Chan, he was hunted down and killed by Cao Jun, but Zhao Yun was not afraid of death, and killed a bloody road, Cao Cao found a good general, so he ordered Zhao Yun to be captured alive.
However, in the end, Zhao Yun still broke through the enemy line and rode away with the young lord Liu Chan. After Zhao Yun retreated, Liu Bei was shocked and marveled at Zhao Yun's strength. Then Zhao Yun changed from a big head guard to a personal guard of Liu Bei.
From here on, Zhao Yun bowed to death for Liu Bei's realization of his ideal of restoring the Han Dynasty. Liu Bei really established the Shu state by obtaining the land of Hanzhong, and surrounded by everyone, Liu Bei became the king of Hanzhong.
After Liu Bei became king, the first thing he naturally did was to give everyone a reward for meritorious deeds. In Liu Bei's camp, the one with the greatest merit was definitely Zhuge Liang, Pang Tong and other strategists and the Five Tigers, but after the reward of merit, except for Zhao Yun, the other four had already been enfeoffed.
Hou except Zhao Yun
So let's first look at the other four generals, how were they crowned? First of all, let's talk about Guan Yunchang, the most famous martial saint in the Three Kingdoms, Guan Yu was divided into Cao Cao's camp for his own reasons after he married his brothers Liu Bei and Zhang Fei.
Cao Cao was a man who loved money as much as his life, although he had not yet become the most powerful prince in the Central Plains at that time, but Guan Yu was the best treated here. Guan Yu did not disappoint Cao Cao, and made great achievements in beheading Liang and Wen Ugly.
After Cao Cao defeated Yuan Shao, he immediately wanted to make Guan Yu Marquis. Because Emperor Xian of Han was young at that time and was only a puppet of Cao Cao, Cao Cao simply asked Emperor Xian of Han to personally make Guan Yu the Marquis of Hanshouting. Not long after, Guan Yu learned of Liu Bei's news and bid farewell to Cao Cao to leave, but guan Yu's name as Marquis of Hanshouting after leaving was still there.
The second was Liu Bei's third brother Zhang Fei, who not only threw his head and spilled blood for Liu Bei's Shu state, but also sold all his hometown when Liu Bei was about to establish a great cause, and exchanged it for money for Liu Bei to recruit soldiers and buy horses. Therefore, after Liu Bei became the queen of Hanzhong, the first one was to make Zhang Fei the Marquis of Xinxiang.
After Zhang Fei was made the Marquis of Xinxiang, the second person to be made a marquis was none other than Huang Zhong. Although huang zhong was said to be the last of the five tiger generals to join the shu camp. However, in the Battle of Hanzhong, Huang Zhongli fought Xiahou Chun and slashed the enemy general under his horse with a knife, laying the foundation for the success of the Battle of Hanzhong and allowing Liu Bei to firmly hold Hanzhong in his hands.
Therefore, Huang Zhong, as the general who won the first merit in the Battle of Hanzhong, was made the Marquis of Guannei by Liu Bei. Later, he was reused by Liu Bei and arranged by Liu Bei to guard Hanzhong.
Finally, there was Ma Chao, the leader of the Western Liang Army, and Ma Chao and his father Ma Teng were originally great generals who were canonized by the imperial court. Later, after Cao Cao came to power, Cao Cao wanted Ma Chao to fight for his life, so he instructed Emperor Xian of Han to make Ma Chao the Marquis of Duting, hoping to win Ma Chao over through this.
As a result, Ma Chao and Cao Cao did not deal with each other, and later they were even more hostile to Cao Cao' soldiers, and although Cao Cao was particularly angry at Ma Chao's move, the title of Marquis of Duting was never removed. Therefore, of the four generals of the Five Tigers, only two were enfeoffed at that time, and the other two already had names.
Zhao Yun was not crowned Marquis for three reasons
From the above examples, we can know that the reason why Zhao Yun was not crowned marquis was that although Zhao Yun had made great military achievements, Zhao Yun had never been a great general.
From before and after Liu Bei established the State of Shu, we can find a truth, that is, Liu Bei never let Zhao Yun serve as a general in a big war, and even the position of general was very small. Therefore, when it came time to discuss the merits and rewards, although Zhao Yun had merit, he could not reward them.
The second reason was because Zhao Yun didn't care about these false names at all. Although Zhao Yun did not marry Liu Bei as a brother like Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun was a loyal and righteous person, and he was the third person to follow Liu Bei besides Guan Zhang's two brothers.
Zhao Yun's greatest credit was to save the hou lord Liu Chan, and his prestige was relatively high in the Shu kingdom. Although Zhao Yun was not reused by Liu Bei, Zhao Yun played the most important role, that is, as Liu Bei's guard captain, responsible for protecting Liu Bei's thoughtfulness, which can also be seen that Liu Bei had great trust and importance to Zhao Yun.
For Zhao Yun, there was no such thing as Liu Bei giving him the title of Marquis, because the title of Marquis only had a false name and no actual rights. Moreover, Zhao Yun was also a man who was indifferent to fame and fortune and had absolute loyalty to Liu.
The third reason is that because Zhao Yun's rank is not enough, Zhao Yun is only Liu Bei's guard captain in the end, although he is also a figure who can command the three armies, and he has also made great achievements, but if you want to be a marquis, one of the most important conditions is that you must be a general.
Although this general is no matter how big or small, as long as it is personally canonized by the emperor. From the records of the history books, Zhao Yun obviously did not have such qualifications, because the four great generals of the East, West, South, and North were occupied by the other four generals of the Five Tigers, and he was obviously not on the list.
