The emergence of martyrdom is because the ancient people at that time believed that the soul of a person lived in another world after death, and the tomb was also the residence of the tomb owner in another world, and everything according to the burial of the living could be driven by the slavery of the tomb owner after death.
Legend says: The terracotta warriors of the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang are all made of living people, and the spirit of the gods is on the figurines, guarding the Qin Emperor for thousands of generations and conquering the underworld. This may sound nonsense, but it can also be seen in the thinking of the ancients after death. When the emperor died and went west, many of the concubines in the harem, many of whom were in their youth and beautiful years, had not yet begun to enjoy life, but they were about to set foot on the Huangquan Road and lie in that cold tomb. Of course they don't want to, but they have to deal with it, so there are four ways to deal with it.
The first: suicide
Some concubines just make a fuss and try to see if they can escape, even if there is only a glimmer of hope, after all, the fear of death is really grinding. After a full meal, the concubines either took the initiative to hang themselves on the white aya or drank poison and wine to death, which was decent. Since resistance is fruitless, it is also good to die quietly and without disaster.
The second type: being killed
The concubines were fruitless, still unwilling, thinking of running away and resisting, so uncooperative, the fathers-in-law would appear, and after eating this full meal, they would go on the road and strangle them alive. The dead phase is ugly, and there is no problem with post-processing properly.
The third type: mercury irrigation
This is the most cruel and terrifying, and can best protect the bodies of the martyrs. The general process is as follows: first give the martyrs a narcotic drug, the effect of the drug begins to be poured into the head and mouth of the person, and then it will stop at a certain amount. In this way, their bodies will not decay for a long time after death. This method is harmful, and few people will do it, but it is not nothing.
Fourth: buried alive
This is the simplest and crudest. First of all, without revealing the news of the martyrdom, when carrying the coffin and sealing the tomb, they were led into the mausoleum, and then the exit was sealed, and the concubines could only wait for the last trace of oxygen consumption in the tomb passage, waiting for death to come. The long wait for death will drive them crazy. Some will take the initiative to end themselves, or end each other. In the tombs of many dignitaries and nobles, the corpses placed on the ground were buried alive.
Just as the so-called king wants the subject to die, the subject has to die. Not dying or fleeing is a great sin of disobedience and full of slashing. It is better to be happy than a knife, thinking that in the next life, I will no longer have anything to do with the royal family. It was not until the end of the last feudal dynasty, the Qing Dynasty, that the system of martyrdom was completely completely completed. Poor concubines who were buried with them, who were high above and beautiful as flowers, could not escape such a death.
Fortunately, feudal society no longer exists, and now our lives are much better than before? In the new society, everyone is equal. It is no longer as cruel as before, and there are still cruel systems.
