I've watched it many times, and every time I'll find something different. The reason why Hal gave Sophie the little garden was actually his childhood dream; the reason why Hal was so broken that his hair changed color and was not beautiful, in fact, he was also very unconfident, thinking that beauty was the only thing he had, even beautiful, Sophie would not like him; when Sophie fell asleep for the first time after becoming old, she became young because only in her dreams did she have the courage and confidence to dream.
When Hal changed the house, he kept the room that belonged to Sophie because he thought she would be more comfortable, and Sophie felt as if she could only stay in such a small room and become old again... All the lack of self-confidence and timidity are more like lovers in the ambiguous period. But even so, Hal finally said that he would fight for Sophie and no longer choose to escape, and Sophie finally understood Hal's thoughts and bravely expressed her feelings, so that there would be a final embrace.
I've seen people say in many places that Howl's Moving Castle is inferior to Miyazaki's other animated films. But I think it's really not, there are many people who look at it with the purpose of comparison, just use miyazaki's previous film ideas to interpret, and think that Miyazaki's expression is not as good as before. I've watched the movie dozens of times, and each time I feel different. I used to just think Hal was handsome, Sophie's silver-gray hair was good-looking, and they finally kissed in the flying castle for a good romance.
Later, I felt more and more, from the view of the Witch of the Wild, to Sophie's family, to the view of Cassifah, which was very different from the first time. From sighing for love after watching it for the first time, to now being happy and sad and crying after watching it, I have also changed from a primary school student to a working person in my twenties, it has accompanied me for so long, brought me so many emotional experiences, in my heart, it is "one of the best".
I have seen Hal at least 10 times, and it should be understood more deeply.
1. When Hal returns to the castle and meets the elderly Sophie for the first time, I think he recognizes her at first sight. And she also knew that she had been magically cast. So didn't drive her out. After all, the secret base is not something that ordinary people can enter. The apprentice brother had said that since he had come to the castle as an apprentice, he had never seen outsiders come in. (And when Sophie entered the castle, Karsifa didn't stop it.) 2. The most important Thing Sophie is asleep, Hal returns from the battlefield, and Sophie's dream is not told. This is the beginning of their relationship, and it is also the opportunity for Hal to open his heart. This is written very vaguely, but it also expresses Sophie's initial feelings. Care and trust.
3. Finally, it comes to why Sophie took Karsifa out of the room in the later stages. Because the plot is explained and frequent outings, the witch grandmother says that the window curtains are not closed, because the teacher has been looking for the location of Hal's castle. If you want to guard the heart of Karsifa and Hal, you must delete the location of all the doors and disconnect each door of the castle. Miyazaki's animation gives me the feeling that I don't need to read it, it's just a work of art. I have studied classical oil painting since I was a child, and naturally I have admired many Van Gogh and Monet, and my vision can be said to be picky. But my evaluation of Miyazaki is still high, really high, really a modern master.
