During the Jin Dynasty, Shi'an Commandery (司安郡) was originally under the administration of Guangzhou, with seven counties under its jurisdiction, namely Shi'an, Shiyang, Pingle, Lipu, Chang'an, Xiping, and Yongfeng, which were later divided into Xiangzhou. The first Duke of Shi'an Commandery was Wen Yu.

Shi'an Zhongwu Duke - Wen Zhao. Wen Zhao zi Tai (太) Zhen, born of the Wen clan in Taiyuan. Since Wen Yue was Liu Kun's nephew, he was highly valued by Liu Kun, and in addition to his many military achievements in the war with Shi Le, he was relied on by Liu Kun as the mastermind. Sima Rui claimed the title of Queen of Jin, and Liu Kun made Wen Yu the left governor of Sikong Province, and asked him to go south to Jiangdong to persuade Sima Rui to be emperor. After arriving in Jiankang, Wen Yu's performance was admired by Sima Rui, and Wen Yu was left in Jiankang.

However, Wen Yu was bent on returning to the north to help Liu Kun, but was not allowed, and it was not until Liu Kun was killed by Duan Piluo that Wen Yu stayed in Jiankang and became friends with Sima Shao. During this period, Wen Yu continued to complain for Liu Kun, and eventually Sima Rui posthumously gave Liu Kun the title of Servant and Lieutenant, and gave him the title of Lieutenant.

After the outbreak of Wang Dun's rebellion, Wang Dun wanted to depose Sima Shao as crown prince, and Wen Yu stepped forward to protect Sima Shao and foiled Wang Dun's plot. After Sima Shao ascended the throne, Wen Yu became his confidant, and Wen Yu also helped Sima Shao actively plot against Wang Dun. After that, Wang Dun raised an army again in the name of killing Wen Yu and other traitors, and Wen Yu was ordered to lead an army to resist and defeat Wang Han, a brother of wang Dun' clan. After Wang Dun's rebellion was put down, Wen Yu was given 5,400 silks by the feudal Ning County Duke, and was promoted to the former general.

After Sima Shao's death, Wen Yu became one of the auxiliary ministers and was appointed as the general of Jiangzhou Assassin, Zhijie, Dudu, and Pingnan, leaving the town of Wuchang. Although this move was used by Yu Liang to guard against Tao Kan, Wen Zheng promoted talents and widely administered benevolent government during his stay in Jiangzhou.

After the outbreak of the Su Jun Rebellion, Wen Yu and Yu Liang again rose up in a crusade, during which they persuaded Tao Kan to go to the country together, mediate the contradictions between Tao Kan and Yu Liang, and become the mastermind of quelling the rebellion of Su Jun. In the fourth year of Xianhe (329 AD), after the rebellion was put down, Wen Yu was given the title of General of the Hussars, Kaifu Yi Tongsan Division, Jiasan Guanshan, and the Duke of Shi'an County, with three thousand households. Later, Wen Yu refused to stay in the central government to assist the government, believing that Wang Dao was the right person to assist the government, and returned to Wuchang after leaving some materials. In the same year, Wen Yu died of a stroke at the age of forty-two, and Sima Yan posthumously awarded Wen Yu the title of Shizhong (侍中) and a general (侍中) and a general with the posthumous title of Zhongwu (忠武).
