According to the Russian Satellite News Agency on the 13th, Pavel Sorokin, chief researcher of the "Inorganic Nanomaterials" research laboratory of the "Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys" of the Russian National Research and Technology University and a doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, recently pointed out that the all-superconducting tokamak nuclear fusion experimental device (EAST) implemented in Hefei has become one of the most significant achievements in world science in 2021.

Known as the "artificial sun", EAST is one of the three major domestic tokamak devices currently operating in China. The unit holds a record for long periods of high-temperature plasma operation. In the first half of 2021, it maintained an electron temperature plasma of 120 million degrees Celsius for 101 seconds. The EAST device also achieved 160 million degrees Celsius and 20 seconds of plasma operation, which is more than 10 times the temperature of the sun.

Sorokin said: "This is undoubtedly a victory for Chinese science. This shows that we are getting closer and closer to realizing the human dream of access to the cleanest, almost inexhaustible energy sources. Sorokin also pointed out that this experiment is a testament to the successful collaboration of scientists from many countries. EAST is part of the International Thermonuclear Fusion Experimental Reactor (ITER) program, with the participation of China, India, the European Union, Russia, the United States and other countries. "It also illustrates the importance of bringing together the efforts of numerous scientists to achieve a project." I believe there will only be more projects of this scale in the future. ”
