【Smart Car Pie News】On January 13, Zhiche Pie learned from BYD officials that the third generation of pure electric driverless delivery vehicles jointly developed and designed by BYD and the American science and technology innovation company Nuro was officially released. It is reported that the project was officially launched in August 2019 and is scheduled to be put into mass production in early 2023.

BYD and Nuro jointly developed and designed the third generation of pure electric driverless delivery vehicles
Nuro is a company focused on the development of autonomous freight vehicles, and has launched two generations of autonomous delivery vehicles for delivery services in scenarios such as restaurants and grocery stores. Up to now, Nuro has successfully completed the trial operation of automatic delivery in communities in many parts of the United States.

In this project, BYD is responsible for vehicle development, vehicle testing, and manufacturing, while providing core First-level assembly components such as blade batteries, motors, electronic controls, and human-computer interaction, while Nuro provides technologies such as autonomous driving, gateways, control modules, and sensors.
It is worth mentioning that relying on the advanced technology of both sides, this autonomous delivery vehicle has a larger load capacity, higher safety, and twice the freight volume of the previous generation. The car is also equipped with a temperature-controlled compartment to ensure that the goods are at the right temperature. In addition, in order to improve driving safety and full perception of the surrounding environment, the car is also equipped with external airbags and multi-mode sensing kits.
