Reach more than 5 million passengers a month: T-Mobile USA acquires interactive video provider

T-Mobile USA acquired Octopus Interactive for an undisclosed price as part of the carrier's efforts to expand its advertising business.

Octopus Interactive operates video screens in Uber and Lyft cars, providing ads, games, driver details and weather forecasts.

T-Mobile said Octopus Interactive has the largest Uber and Rifle car screen network in the U.S., adding that free tablets for taxi services offered to drivers will be connected to its mobile network.

This business will be added to T-Mobile's Marketing Solutions Division. Mike Peralta, its vice president and general manager, said the acquisition enhances its ad tech capabilities.

T-Mobile said the Octopus Interactive Network reaches more than 5 million travelers a month, aged between 18 and 49, with an average annual income of $130,000.

Audible, Fox Entertainment and streaming service Philo are all currently customers of Octopus Interactive.
